Charity Report: Nancy Cartwright To Host Tournament for Happy House
Whether it is the giving spirit of the holiday season or the charitable nature of Nancy Cartwright, she is hosting the second charity poker tournament in only three months at her home in Southern California. This one will benefit Happy House.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th from 3pm to 8pm at her house in Northridge, California. There will be a barbeque for all attendees, and the poker tournament sometime thereafter. Nancy is requesting that all poker players arrive by 2pm that day to sign up, though registration is also possible on the Happy House website.
The event is being touted as family-friendly. Cost for poker players is $75, adults who simply want to attend will pay $25, and children who are coming along require a $5 donation.
Happy House is an organization founded by Nancy Cartwright and Rose Goss. Nancy is best known as the voice of Bart Simpson on The Simpsons, though she also provides voice work for the characters of Ralph, Nelson, and Todd and Rodd Flanders on the TV show. She is an Emmy award winner who owns an entertainment company and has worked in Hollywood for many years, as well as donating her time and efforts to numerous charities. Rose is a writer and award-winning documentary producer and the founder of The Hollywood Writer’s Society.
The overall mission of Happy House, as stated on the website, is to “bring about a safer community by ‘building better families.’ We are here to help, not to tell people what is right or wrong or to set down any rules. Our goal is a healthy world where people can trust one another and not live in fear, where there is mutual respect and a true sense of community. We are here to support the efforts of those who are doing good deeds. We want to make it easier for everyone to live a life that creates happiness for all.”
Specifically, the December 15th poker tournament will benefit a project being undertaken by Happy House and finance a large mass mailing of booklets. Nancy wrote in an open letter on the organization’s website:
“We here at Happy House use a little booklet called The Way to Happiness which has 21 simple little chapters that make up a common sense guide to happy living. What happy means in this case is a life with respect, friendship, trust, family, prosperity and all those things that we live for. I am mailing out one million of these booklets to my neighbors in the San Fernando Valley… It’s written by L. Ron Hubbard, but this is not part of any church or doctrine. It’s just a gift.”
