Start a Poker Blog
I’ve been blogging about my poker ride for the past two years. I originally decided to start a blog just to track my personal progress and failures in poker. I had no idea how much more I’d get out of it. I enjoy sharing my ups and downs at the tables and reading about other player’s struggles, successes and topics that might improve my game. When you start interacting with other poker bloggers, you become part of a special group of people from all over the country and other parts of the world that enjoy sharing their poker experiences. Poker bloggers converge on Las Vegas for a live private tournament, play mixed poker games, party and gamble it up on the tables at least twice a year. I’ve been going to these events for the past two years and I’ve met several excellent players and genuinely good people who have the same passion for the game as I do. There are other blogger gatherings hosted annually in other parts of the U.S and Canada as well.
Bloggers host regularly weekly online tournaments on Full Tilt Poker, Bodog and PokerStars. There’s an online poker blogger tournament hosted almost every night of the week. Most online poker sites understand the importance and value of attracting poker bloggers.
Late last year, Full Tilt Poker ran a series of tournaments and a Tournament of Champions which sent a poker blogger to Australia to play in the 2008 Aussies Millions.
This year Bodog Poker is running a series of tournaments exclusive to bloggers that will send one of us to the 2008 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. The weekly Bodog Poker Blogger tournament only costs $10+1 to enter and runs every Tuesday night at 9:05pm ET.
PokerStars hosts an annual “World Blogger Championship of Online Poker” tournament. Last year, they awarded over 40k in prizes including a $12k PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament package. The entry fee is free for all bloggers.
Many bloggers have even discovered ways to profit from having a blog. You can become affiliated with sites that sell utilities and tools for online poker. Many bloggers take advantage of these offers to start and maintain their online poker bankroll.
So how do you start a blog? Go to Blogger.com or WordPress.com and they’ll walk you through it. Just do a short post about how long you’ve been playing, some of your accomplishments and what you’re trying to achieve. Then visit some other poker blogs and get connected. Leave comments and other bloggers may come to your site or even link back to your blog. Poker bloggers encourage everyone to play blogger tournaments (aka bloggaments), discuss hands, poker strategy and have fun. There’s even a pirate internet radio station that broadcasts during some of the tournaments which you can tune into, making the whole online poker experience feel more like a live game.
