The Kentucky Derby Poker Championship has been scheduled forKentucky Derby Poker Championship Saturday, May 3rd at Caesars Indiana. Phil Hellmuth, Jr. and Robert Williamson III will host the celebrity charity poker tournament to raise money for several non-profit organizations – Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre, Health and Climate Foundation, and Robby Albarado Foundation.

The tournament will take place following the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. There will be a red carpet reception at 7pm on the evening of May 3rd, and the $2500 buy-in poker tournament will start at 8:30pm. There will be rebuys available until the first break and a one-time add-on option at the end of the rebuy period.

Hellmuth noted, “I’m really excited to be co-hosting this event with Robert Williamson III and to support such an important cause. The climate is changing and the poor will be the hardest hit. Anything we can do to raise awareness of this issue and help save lives is important.”

The Kentucky Derby Poker Championship will be benefiting three organizations, all of which are tied to climate change. The first is the Climate Centre, which supports the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the hopes of reducing the loss of life and damage done to the livelihoods of people affected by the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. The operation serves areas in need around the world.

The second organization is the Health and Climate Foundation, which was established to help increase the well-being of people by supporting better understanding of the connections between health, climate, and other environmental factors. Through this knowledge, it hopes to combat disease and poverty through interactions between individuals and scientific and educational communities.

Thirdly, the tournament will benefit the Robby Albarado Foundation, which was recently established by long-time successful horseracing jockey Robby Albarado and aims to help underprivileged, homeless, or socially and economically disadvantaged people in the Louisville, Kentucky area.

Caesars Indiana is a Harrah’s property located near the Louisville, Kentucky home of Churchill Downs where the Kentucky Derby will run. The casino will be running satellites through the months of March and April to award seats into the charity tournament. There is also a prize package being given away at the Twin Spires website – one of the event’s sponsors – where registration offers the chance to win a seat to the tournament (at Phil Hellmuth’s table), 2 VIP tickets to the Kentucky Derby earlier in the day, and all travel expenses for the weekend.
