NBC Heads-Up Championship Begins Airing Sunday
This Sunday, April 12th, NBC will begin airing the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker
Championship that was filmed at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The tournament began on February 28th with a pairing party and action-packed bracket-style heads-up action that lasted from February 29th through March 2nd.Each show will air on NBC at noon EST every Sunday from April 13 through May 18. The NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship is in its fourth season and promises some of the most exciting match-ups that viewers have seen thus far.
The tournament itself featured 64 players, including a wide array of players from the poker community. Some of the most accomplished players in the world participated, like Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, Chris Ferguson, and Daniel Negreanu. There were also some celebrity poker enthusiasts like Don Cheadle, Jason Alexander, and Orel Hershiser, along with some amateur players who qualified via satellite tournaments. All were there to compete for the $1.5 million prize pool.
Brunson commented, “The Heads-Up Championship is a unique concept that we all like and it’s really our only opportunity to play head-to-head against all the top players. It’s an important event in the poker world.”
Hellmuth added, “There is huge prestige in just being here. It’s one of those things where you know it’s an honor just to be invited to play.”
