Lee Jones Leaves EPT to Join CardRunners
One of the most respected businessmen in poker, Lee Jones, is leaving his post as the Executive
Host of the European Poker Tour to join CardRunners as its Chief Operating Officer. He will oversee quality control and direct the staff of poker professionals for the online poker training company.Jones has been an asset to various companies over the years. From 2003 to 2007, he served as the poker room manager for PokerStars and helped grow the company into one of the largest in the world. From there, he joined up with the EPT to serve as the tour’s Executive Host, and his duties there came to include organizing each tournament, and serving as the lead broadcaster for the television productions and live online video. It was upon the conclusion of the 2008 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo that the official announcement was made that he was leaving the EPT.
With regard to Jones’ joining the CardRunners organization, he said, “I am delighted to be joining CardRunners as its Chief Operating Officer. Everything about CardRunners is a great fit for me. Taylor, Andrew, and Brian are all scary smart young men, they’ve got a great business model, and they are having fun building a business. Joining them enables me to get back to my real love in poker, which is the game itself – teaching and discussing it.”
CardRunners is an instructional poker website that offers a subscription-based service that includes video lessons, hand histories, chats, and blog posts – all courtesy of some of the most consistently successful young online pros in the game. The key members of the site who serve as instructors and newly-signed Full Tilt pro players are Taylor Caby, Andrew Wiggins, Brian Townsend, Eric Liu, Brian Hastings, Mike Schneider, and Cole South. Other pros who have become CardRunners instructors are Ryan Daut, David Benefield, and Isaac Baron.
Caby, one of the CardRunners co-founders, spoke about Jones joining the team. “We’re ecstatic about bringing Lee Jones on to the CardRunners team. Lee’s name is synonymous with integrity and reliability, which are vital to a young business in a rapidly growing industry. In 1994, Lee’s book changed the way the poker world thought about the game; I’m looking forward to combining his talents with those of CardRunners’ pros to do much more of the same.”
Jones’ own excitement about joining the site as its COO is reflected in a welcome statement he posted on the CardRunners site. He notes that the website is the “clear leader in the poker training industry.” By offering more training videos at the highest quality possible, he hopes to keep the company at the level of status it currently holds. He notes, “I am excited about being a member of the CardRunners team and look forward to helping you achieve your goal of being the best poker player you can be.”
With Jones immersed in the business and prepared to apply the utmost commitment to CardRunners – as he has to every other project he has taken on in poker – the site may just be catapulted to new levels of success that the young founders hadn’t even imagined.
