The inaugural Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament was held in 2007 to raise money for theMarco and Jennifer with a superstar Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA). After raising $130,000 and allowing the no-kill shelter to build a new wing to house more animals in the facility, Harman set out to do better in 2008. On Friday, April 18th, she did just that with the second annual tournament by raising approximately $325,000.

While the biggest names in poker showed up to support the cause – Brunson, Greenstein, Elezra, Negreanu, Ivey – it was the animals that were the stars of the day. Several NSPCA representatives brought animals, such as dogs, cats, and rabbits, to walk the red carpet with the poker pros prior to the event. It was an all-star event that even ended up partnering one of the kittens with Tournament Director Matt Savage and his family – an adoption was the perfect way to signify the importance of the day.

A total of 251 players came to play the charity tournament, while an even larger number came to see the poker pros and support friends playing in the event. All players paid the $300 buy-in, and a great number of them took advantage of the $200 rebuys. All in all, it was Noah Schwartz who reportedly contributed the most to the cause through rebuys with a total donation of $4,600.

Jennifer Harman is a self-proclaimed animal lover who wants to do as much as possible to help animals who have been rendered homeless. (Earlier this year, she hosted an online poker tournament on Full Tilt Poker to benefit the NSPCA that raised $30,000 for the cause.) The NSPCA is the no-kill shelter that she supports through various charity events. She has also adopted numerous animals from the shelter herself. When Marco was asked how many pets they have adopted, he replied, “I’m not sure. We have eight or nine.”

Harman enjoyed the event immensely, not only playing poker but navigating the room to greet other players, take photos with fans and friends, and monitor the progress of the fundraising. In the end, with the help of a Robert Williamson III-hosted live auction, the grand total raised was said to be $325,000, nearly triple what was donated to the NSPCA last year.

The NSPCA is a no-kill animal shelter in Las Vegas that fights to save animals from euthanasia by housing and protecting them in an open, cage-free environment until they are able to find homes. To find out more about adoption opportunities or donation methods, visit www.NevadaSPCA.org .
