WSOP Ladies Academy Set for June in Las Vegas

When the WSOP Ladies Academy made its debut during the 2007 World Series of Poker, Annie Duke’s instruction was so well-received that one of her students went on to win the WSOP Ladies World Championship event. Needless to say, the academy is set to return for another seminar in Las Vegas on June 6-7, 2008.
The two-day academy is especially designed for female poker players at all skill levels and is limited to 100 participants to ensure that each participant is given the attention she deserves. Annie Duke will be the primary instructor, while Joe Navarro, a former FBI profiler, will join her to focus on female-specific non-verbal behavior at the tables, and Alex “The Insider” Outhred will assist in strategy discussions and hand demonstrations. Included in the two days of intense instruction will be seminars specific to no-limit Texas hold’em strategy, the importance of position, calculating pot odds, and changing gears throughout a tournament.
Brandon Rosen of Post Oak Productions, the company that produces the WSOP Academy, noted, “More women are playing poker, and winning, than ever before, and our goal is to help even more women master the game by giving them the confidence and skills they need to be a threat at the table. The fact that we had a novice poker player go straight from our academy to become a World Champion two days later is a testament to the level of instruction Annie Duke and all of our instructors offer our participants. We’re expecting to see more WSOP Academy grads go on to win bracelets in 2008.”
It was Sally Anne Boyer who attended the sold-out WSOP Ladies Academy last year and went on to win the ladies-only WSOP event. After having only played poker for a year prior to the academy and the tournament victory, she claimed that it was the academy that gave her the confidence and key concepts necessary to play and win the event. “The academy is the quickest way to your WSOP bracelet,” she said.”
The WSOP Ladies Academy, to be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, will also include a private poker tournament in which the top four finishers will each be awarded a $1,500 entry into the 2008 World Series of Poker event of their choice. Previously, the WSOP entries were meant specifically for the Ladies World Championship event, but at Duke’s urging, the awarded entries are now good for any event of the players’ choosing.
The 2008 WSOP Ladies Academy is limited to 100 participants, and it is expected to sell out in advance. The cost of the event is $1,699, and reservations can be made at WSOPAcademy.com or by calling (800) 989-WSOP.
