Trannies Lose, Deadheads Win
It took the largest sample of online poker players and a university study to prove it, but cross-dressing won’t help your online poker play. Listening to the Dead may help. Dropping acid was apparently not segregated as a variable.
A study conducted by Nottingham Trent University, and commissioned by eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA), polled over 10,000 online players from almost 100 countries to come up with some interesting tidbits about us. The 130 page study will be released soon, but for now you’ll have to do with the 18 page media summaryÂ
They did note that players that represent themselves online as the opposite gender tend to be losing players. Perhaps this suggests that if the only weapon in your poker arsenal is an avatar with implants, you’re drawing dead. (btw - the picture above is of the infamous tiltboys, dressed in drag to play a women’s only event in CA - it’s a must read account).
The study also found that players who listened to music while they played were winning players. Sadly they did not delve into whether some musical genres had better EV than others.  For more data on that front, I suggest Pauly.  Â
They also noted that men reported being winners more than women. They didn’t really expound on this piece of data, but I draw the obvious conclusion; men lie about their prowess on and off the felt. Granted, this is founded on my own anecdotal evidence.
I just received my copy of Women’s Poker Night. I have been too nervous to do anything but scan my chapter entitled Poker’s Magical Mystery Tour. I did see that they left my introduction intact, where I detail how I was hit on by a woman at a Tunica Casino bar. I also saw that they left in my quotes from Tallulah Bankhead, The English Beat, John Milton, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles. I suspect I’ll read everyone else’s chapters first before I re-read my own, starting with Jen Leo’s.  In the mean time, I’ll leave you with these words to ponder:

Music is a bigger vice for me than poker.
