LA? Bring It.

I had just finished sending an email to a professor yesterday that said I would be in Austin for the foreseeable future. Ten minutes later, I booked a flight to LA. I leave tomorrow.

I guess you could say I’m an easy touch when it comes to traveling for a poker tournaments. I’m an even easier touch if I think I can hang with Pauly, Change, and the Shrink. So when a potential client called and asked if I could possibly meet in LA, I thought of the great crew heading out to cover the LA Poker Classic for PokerNews and said, “Sure.” My next call was to John at PokerNews begging onto the team. Â

Since doing my traveling about face, I have come up with dozens of rationalizations reasons why I should go to LA. I have never been to the Commerce; which I believe is considered a sacrilege on the West Coast.  it’s been a long time since I’ve covered a main event. They have a Media Event where I can attempt another heartbreaking bubble finish. After becoming a devotee of Shaniac’s blog, I might actually get to meet Shane on his home turf (and as I write that I see he has just finished 6th at Rincon - congrats). And I’ll be able to see Jen Leo’s engagement ring in person.

There is one thing that almost held me back.  My cat Stella, who is just about to turn 18, is on her last paws.  We have grown old together, she and I. And for the most part, she’s done it a lot more gracefully than I have. But over the last few weeks, all the signs are there that her time is coming. We’ve spent the last week together; side-by-side. So it will be hard to leave her tomorrow. But she’s had a good run. And truth be told, she’d probably be smart to bug out before my menopausal years hit.               Â

It IS a sacrelige, Amy. Your jaw will hit the floor upon your first glimpse of the low-limit room. Nowhere outside the WSOP are there that many tables full of donkeys ;)

Good gravy, does thay mean the stuff you did in 2005-6 can’t be explained by menopause.
One of the "other" 2005 workers

You’ve never been to the Commerce?! No way. OMG the WPT party is the best poker party ever. I thoroughly embarassed myself to Jon Favreau last year. Lets see what kind of damage we can do this year. I’ll bring the ring, just don’t let me get so drunk I offer it up in a prop bet.
Oh, and don’t eat. The media tourney tonight includes food. :-)

The Commerce is everything I hoped for and more. All I can say is "wow" - which goes double for Jen’s ring.

And no Chris. I figured since you were obviously going through "the change," there was only room for one menopausal reporter on the team. Let me know when your hot flashes subside, so I can cue up the hormones.
