Poker Media and Playing Fields

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

In baseball there is one field.  Hockey has one rink.  NASCAR has one track.  Basketball has one court.  When major sports franchises grant exclusive media coverage, the spectator is not necessarily the worse off for it.  The exclusive media provider shows you all the action.  The commentators are there to enhance, not provide, the experience of watching a game play out.  (more…)

Pam Brunson, Casper, and My Streak

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Nothing made me happier than seeing Pam Brunson take home the ladies event at the Bike, insuring her spot in the upcoming WPT Ladies Night.  Well, one thing made me almost as happy - to see my McCarran Airport streak live on.  (more…)

My Vegas and Matusow’s Cats

Friday, August 17th, 2007

I don’t know how many times I’ve actually been to Vegas in my life, but I think I’d be safe taking the over at fifteen.  And at some point (I’m guessing around the 2006 WSOP), I stopped being a tourist; Vegas stopped being their town and became my town.  I still don’t think I could ever live here, but I have to admit that I feel at home here.  (more…)

Goofy Moments from the WSOP ME

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Apparently when the going gets tough, the tough get goofy.  At least that was true in the 2007 WSOP ME.  Players that had been staid and serene throughout the preliminaries were uncharacteristically…well silly…when they struck up the music for the big dance. (more…)

I’m Amused

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

This week, everything amuses me.  I’m amused when I hit a royal in stud during a .25/.50 HORSE session on Full Tilt, get callers all the way, and still only drag a $7.15 pot.  I’m equally amused when my A-J-xxx flush loses to an A-Q-xxx flush.  I’m amused when I can end a two hour session up a buck or two.  But most of all I’m amused that my amusement has built my meager $52 starting bankroll to a little north of a $100 in less than a week of infrequent play. HORSE: My ADD Solution

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

So three days after setting my plan to play PLO8 for the next month I realized, that was never gonna happen.  If wanting to put a gun to your head 20 minutes into every session was a sign of tilt, I was there.  No patience.  No joy.  And no payback.  I’ve been a little ADD since returning from the WSOP and this wasn’t the game for me right now.  And then it hit me: HORSE.
