Sweet Sorrow

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The punch bowl has been taken back to the kitchen.  My coat is at the door.  It’s been one hell of a party, but it’s time for me to go home. (more…)

On the Poker Boob Front

Monday, September 24th, 2007

It seems like there was nothing but boob related talk in the poker world over the last few weeks.  Jose Conseco tried to pass for a woman, boobs took down WSOPE, Jean Robert has man boobs, Pam Anderson used hers to erase a poker debt, and Bryan Micon demonstrated that he was one. (more…)

Wanna Be a Writer?

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

I didn’t.  In fact, mildly dyslexic, I chose an engineering program as an undergraduate in college because it only required one semester of English.  The other thing I never wanted to do was work in marketing.  And now it seems I am in a place where I do both, willingly. (more…)

Occupational Hazards

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

I’m not complaining about making living by doing what I love.  Writing about poker is a pretty sweet gig all the way around.  But a few things came up this week that reminded me of some of my occupational hazards.  Like, what day is it today? (more…)

Pam Brunson, Casper, and My Streak

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Nothing made me happier than seeing Pam Brunson take home the ladies event at the Bike, insuring her spot in the upcoming WPT Ladies Night.  Well, one thing made me almost as happy - to see my McCarran Airport streak live on.  (more…)

Reitman is Dickin’ Grandma

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

No. I’m not making disparaging remarks about Annie Duke, the object of Joe Reitman’s affection. And even though I just wrote about Reitman going to the dogs on my Aimlessly Blog, I am not blog stalking Joe. It’s just that lately, he keeps “popping up.” (more…)

Down Time in Austin

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

I have no official traveling gigs until April and I was looking forward to some down time in Austin. This is usually a great time of year here; the temperature hovers in the 70’s, the SXSW music festival kicks into full gear, and the wildflowers are starting to emerge.  But this week brought me some personal losses that will make this spring tougher to navigate, even from Austin. (more…)

LA? Bring It.

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I had just finished sending an email to a professor yesterday that said I would be in Austin for the foreseeable future. Ten minutes later, I booked a flight to LA. I leave tomorrow. (more…)

Tunica Bliss

Friday, January 5th, 2007
As I walked into the GoldStrike ballroom, I felt like Norm on the old television show Cheers. After making the trek to the World Poker Open all these years, Tunica is the venue where everyone knows my name and I know theirs. (more…)
