Official unofficial word two hours before the start of the World Series of Poker Main Event from the cashier cage (looking at the computer registrations): 8,431 entrants as of 8:45AM Pacific, alternates in the Main Event for the first time in history.
A few quick shots of this sea of tranquility before we get started:
PLO H/L, one of eleven cash tables left a couple hours before primetime.
The best preparation for the Main Event? A little nap.
Staff at the Will Call desk for those pre-registering. First time I’ve ever seen them with no people.
What is everyone fighting for? This view, a seat at the ESPN Final Table, looking into the bleachers at loved ones, over the empty seats where player after player sat.
The plan for today: my goal is to update this three times each day, with a new post when you wake up, another new one at the midway point, and a dinner post. That’s the plan, so I’ll work hard to stick to it. Interspersed will be new articles, so please check out the WSOP Pulse to grab the latest articles. And as always, if you’d like to pimp this humble spot, please feel free:

Good stuff man!
Looking forward to following your coverage!
So…any heads up Chinese Poker with Chau yet?
I’d also be impressed if you took a seat with Chris Fargis at the 400/800 mixed game tables!
There’s a chance they’ll crack 9,000.
Sweet Jebus.
That’s a hell of a crapshoot.
I’d still play though.
Great coverage, CC.
But…
“alternates in the Main Event for the first time in history”
That’s not true. There were alternates two years ago.
