We’ve just kicked off Day 1D, the final first day of the Main Event. Unofficial official number of entrants: 8,774. I’m not sure if there will be any more added to the number, but that’s a good number to recite to folks.
William Deadwyler, PokerStars qualifier. Econ major at George Washington, absolutely freaking out that he’s at the ESPN Feature Table. He could possibly be the first person to throw up on the table. “Joe Hachem is sitting at your table,” someone told him. “He’s famous, isn’t he?” asked William.
Some sextet sang “And I’m Proud to be an American,” which may have sounded like a good idea until you realize that this is the World Series of Poker. We are the World might have been worse, but for the international participants, it may have been a bit odd.
Martins Poker dude. I hope.
Martin de Knijff, Team Martin Captain.
I thought I knew her name, but I’ll have to hunt it down again. Michele?
Kathy Liebert was walking in the aisle before the cards were in the air. A guy with purple hair asked her if she was playing today, and she told him yes. I asked her if she thought purple hair would work for her. “I don’t think so,” she said. I’m pulling for Kathy to go deep.
As well as Cyndy Violette.
Doug Lee, fellow winner of the Steve Levitt Smartypants challenge like me.
