Anatomy of a Suckout

I’ve been in a bit of a daze for the last hour or so after watching just a brutal hand.  Jason Strasser had a great stack, up to around $700k.  With blinds at $2.5k/5.0k with $500 antes, he raised to $15k, and Matt Wilson reluctantly folded in the big blind.

The next hand, again Jason raised to $15k, but this time Wilson re-raised to $75k.  Jason had a massive pyramid of chips, and he lifted his hands off of his head long enough to demonstrate all-in as he spoke those words.  Wilson thought for probably ten seconds then called, turning over As-Ks.  Jason turned over Ac-Ah, and I gave a nice yell to him. You can fill in the rest, but I’ll give you this version:  Jclub7diamond4spadeQspade6spade .  I felt physically sick to my stomach, and just wandered around aimlessly for five minutes at least as Wilson hooted and hollered.  All the while, Jason sat there quietly counting out chips.

He’s down to $230k or so while Wilson gets a massage at the other end of the table.  It’s another brutal hand in an event of brutal hands, but when you invest in someone it hurts doubly hard.  Chris Bigler was nearby as I described the hand to him.  I don’t know really how to proceed with it all.

In other news:

  • David Woo from Atlanta is going strong, while David Chiu isn’t.
  • Joseph Hachem hangs on
  • Negreanu nurses his short stack
  • Bustouts include Michael Lynn, Kathy Liebert, and Chad Layne.  Hoyt Corkins and Tom McEvoy if I haven’t mentioned them.

PUKE! Only in poker (and real life) do you get the crap beat out of you for being in the right place at the right time! At least he was a monster. Now he is down to, what, average stack? Could be a billion times worse.

Disgusting. I haven\’t processed Absinthe\’s heroic push finally coming to an end. Strasser sounds like a class act. I just watched the 2006 TOC broadcast when Hachem\’s kings got killed by Kido Pham\’s brain-dead TJo push. It should be permitted to beat the living feces out of someone who celebrates these suckouts or gives you \
