9′s after a baby flop runs into Queens of Paul Wasicka, and Doug is out in 7th. He’s been an everyman of the college generation, not a wunderkind like Jeff Madsen or Jason Strasser but more like a normal achieving student who also happens to be a degenerate college poker player.
It was nice to follow someone for so long. I didn’t know Doug, but I got to know him. In the end, he reverted back to his role as son and brother, albeit a bit richer. He has the means now to put his new career behind him, and his mother especially is concerned that he’ll leave his career behind and become “…a degenerate gambler…” as his sister told me. Who wouldn’t worry about their child? What will Doug become in his life? Who knows.
He’ll be able to get a nice apartment now, something very few recent college grads can do in Manhattan. He’ll still be able to play poker, but now at a higher level if it is interesting to him. He’ll be able to play more tournaments, and he’ll certainly be able to play next year at the World Series. And he’ll be able to go back to Duke and visit, jumping in the home game if he likes.
