Smelling a Rat

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Ratholing is one of the more hated behaviors at a poker table, and it is normally now found only online.  It is when a player sits at a table (often short-stacked), takes down a big pot, then quickly leaves the table, pulling off the money from the table and booking the win.

Restless Nights

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

It was a long, restless night for me, my laptop warming my lap as poker became my stress outlet.  It is normally a symptom of bigger issues in my psyche when we pass the 3:00AM mark, and I’ve done it two nights in a row.

Defending A Blind Attack from slb159

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

(Very long post) You’ve heard of defending an attack on your blind position, I’m sure. Players in late position can attack your blind, and if you never defend even with marginal hands, others will constantly steal those funds. Well, it seems as I’m on the receiving end of a blind attack after my Mondays at the Hoy tournament played at PokerStars. slb159 had some pretty vicious things to say about blogger tourneys in general and me in particular, so I decided that I’d have to defend.

Am I A Moron?

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Possibly.  Some fiery rhetoric pointed at me from slb159 from yesterday’s MATH event (can see Hoy’s write-up).  It may be the longest post in the history of this site, but I’ll put up all the facts and we’ll figure it out.  Hey, I’ve been called a moron and horrible.  This may be true, but we’ll look at the facts instead.  See you tomorrow.

Starting a Riot in Suburbia

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

A 3rd place finish as I snuck to the felt to play the MATH on PokerStars hoysted by hoyazo. Sweetie and I watched Heroes (a bit weird) and Studio 60 (she fell asleep midway through the episode), and I’d asked permission to play and it had been granted.

Jason Strasser Strikes Paydirt!

Monday, September 25th, 2006

The World Series of Poker is the storied franchise, that of Doyle, Johnny Chan, Stuey, Hellmuth, Moneymaker, and gold bracelets. While it is still the biggest show on Earth, the WCOOP at PokerStars has surpassed it in online cache. And how do you solidify that you have a great event? With a great winner. Jason “strassa2″ Strasser, the senior at Duke who was primed to be the final table representative from his home game until a donkified runner-runner flush took out his pocket aces and Doug Kim made it instead, took top honors in yesterday’s $1k NLHE event. UK pro Barny Boatman finished third, and Jason took home $442,440 a little after 5:00AM this morning. “I have class at 8:30, which I’ll probably skip, then a job interview at 10:15.  I’m going to go get some breakfast now”

Who’s Your Daddy?

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Well, it’s not me for sure.  Congrats go to Trauma Poker who outlasted drizz and CJ for the DADI HORSE title.  It was my first HORSE tourney, one of my first tourneys in a couple weeks, and I stumbled out after a big busto hand in Stud H/L.

Cranking Along

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Good morning all.  I crashed and burned last night, missing the Mook in what looked like a terrific tourney.  Congrats to Iakaris outlasting 23skidoo in a classic.  I pretended to pretend to be asleep around 8:00 last night, which means I pulled the comforter over my head, fully clothed, then went to sleep as soon as Sweetie asked me if I was seriously in bed rather than putting the boys to bed.  What’s a brotha gonna do?

Collusion?

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Well, if you’ve watched the two ESPN WSOP episodes last night, we went from 27 to the final 9 players.  If you were focused, you also saw Pauly, change100, and my head a couple times.  What you also got alot of was one Mr. Jamie Gold and more details of his table chatter.

Can You Kill Your Own Dog?

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

I’m sneaking out to the airport (4:15AM here), on my way to Detroit for the day.  Played a bit more last night, ended up slightly after a rocky road of HORSE.  Almost got bucked off, so I need to be sure I can devote myself to play when I’m sitting down (not normal for me, what with multi-tasking and the like).
