A horrendous day yesterday of casual poker, that’s a whopping $1.4k down in a few hours. It was just dreadful to go through, and it’s a tired act to be honest with you.
I hate that this pattern never goes away: grind, grind, grind, grind, lose a huge chunk, repeat. There really is no need to go through it all. Some huge hands cracked (AA by J-10o), $100 lost at PLO (doubled up by betting my flopped straight and straight flush draw vs. the baby straight then hit the straight flush, only to lose a few hands later on something similar), then burned through the final $900 at a $15/30 6-max LHE table. I’ve failed once again to clear a bonus without losing my shirt.
My quandary is that I have this failing laptop at my fingertips all day with no real plan, while I almost never play at night. Game selection seems to be my biggest problem by a long shot, that and how I go about making a decision on what to play and what I’m trying to do (which is the same as game selection, so I’m not sure why I typed that). No long diatribe, no bad beats or stories of what happened as the cards and what I did with them really aren’t important. What is important is why these occurrences continue to occur and can I stop them. I don’t know either answer and am too close to them, so I’ll table the discussion. I now have to win roughly $2k to clear my reload bonus and show a profit doing so. I’m not going to think about it right now, and I’ve got no real interest in looking inside myself.
I got several emails yesterday about CC’s Thursday Bash, and it sounds like we might just be starting a nice game. Be sure to note the date, though; this starts in a few weeks (9 November), not this Thursday. More details to follow.
I’m looking forward to my dinner next Monday after a client meeting. My client has been a bit of a frustration as I’ve sat on research results for three months waiting for them to meet with me. Catching up with Jason Strasser after the meeting will make up for whatever I go through during the session. Jason is one of the top young talents around, and I’m looking forward to it.
That’s it for now. My wisdom for today: don’t lose huge amounts of money. That is all.
In regards to table selection, when you do play at night are you more profitable ? Just curious about the action day vs. evening.
I’d be interested to see what Jason has to say about his recent decision to pursue a finance career instead of playing poker.
Hopefully your luck will turn around soon…
Ouch man thats tough I\’m sure bounce back soon enough just dont let it change your game…
