I Learned How to Play Poker Again

More like remembered how to play, I guess.  I folded my way to +$607.55 playing $10/20 HORSE and $15/30 LHE on PokerStars.  I made one major error doing another PLO experiment (I’d built $10 into $100) by catching the second nuts on a checked board then paying off the nuts which had been flopped.  Omaha is a game of the nuts often, so you can’t do stupid things like that.

I missed the Mookie last night, which is disappointing.  I’d gotten permission from Sweetie to play but then passed out on All-In’s bed around 8:00.  When she woke me up, it was 12:15 or so and I headed to bed.  I took All-In and the Big Guy to boo the Big Guy’s girlfriend’s house.  He’s eleven, and having a girlfriend means that he asked her, she said yes, then they haven’t spoken to each other in three months (not much of an understatement).  Booing a house means that you leave a Boo paper plus candy at someone’s front door, then ring the doorbell and run.  Yep, we’re crazy here in Suburbia.  People used to egg a house when I was growing up, but candy is better.

I woke up early and told Sweetie to stay in bed, that I’d take care of the boys.  All-In, The Big Guy, and I headed to Chick-Fil-A for a prayer breakfast.  I’d mentioned that I wanted to start doing this as it was something I used to do when I was in high school.  It was just the three of us and not too big a deal, but it was nice to break from the norm a bit.  All-In had a bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit (he’s the only person who’s ever ordered this), the Big Guy had two egg and cheese, and they each got a Coke for breakfast (big treat).  We ate, read a passage from Luke about not worrying, then each said something he wanted to pray about.  All-In said he wanted to pray about my business, and The Big Guy wanted to pray for the troops.  I wanted to pray for my brother, Econ, who is in the midst of finding a job as he finishes his Ph.D from UGA in Economics.  Then we each prayed, and both of the boys prayed about the three things.  Then off to school we went.

I’m suffering pretty fierce in general, so doing this was really more for me than for them.  All in all, it was a great way to begin the day, and it  might become a Thursday morning ritual.  Hopefully following the Mook on Wednesdays.

I wanted to be sure everyone knows that CC’s Thursday Bash starts in two weeks.  I’ll let you know what the prizes I’m able to score over the next two weeks will be.  I’ll also be reaching out to some of the folks I’ve interviewed over the last few months, as well as those I met at the WSOP, so hopefully we’ll have a bigtime sendoff for the first tourney.  I just signed up for the event, so I opened up a $2/4 HORSE table to try and win back the entry fee.  It is a problem I often have, keeping up with how much I’m stuck then trying to get it back vs. just playing my best.

I think I play too much indifferent poker, which hurts me in the long run.  A typical thing I’ll do during the day is have a table open and playing while having literally ten-twenty other Windows open (meaning six Firefox windows, seven Outlook messages, three Excel workbooks, an occasional PowerPoint pitch or two, plus some Word documents).  Plus iTunes, as well as AIM normally with nothing going on.  When it’s my turn to play, the table pops up and I raise, call, or fold.  Not exactly a great habit to get in, I know, but it is how I play probably 80% of the time, maybe more.  It’s also a very hard habit to break when I do ever decide to really play.

I got a new cell phone after mine wouldn’t keep a charge.  I got a Razor which is pretty nice.  I think I’m going to work on CC’s MySpace page.  I need to pretty it up, as well as do all the asking to be friends with a bunch of people.  I’ll try to figure it out, but anyone with knowledge can email me at csquard@gmail.com.  Thanks for stopping by, and see you guys later.
