Heading Home at Gatwick

Our flight leaves in ninety minutes, we’re well fed with a big breakfast at Garfunkel’s, and Sweetie is scouring Harrod’s trying to rid herself of pounds. Some final photos from our trip to follow.

The ride to Gatwick from Sunningdale was quicker than the first trip and equally uneventful. It is a nice, leisurely end to the trip, casually walking through the terminal, grabbing a bite to eat, maybe even sneaking a few hands in if I can. Some photos from earlier in the week:

Beefeater attacks All-In. After spotting All-In’s Manchester United scarf, he grabbed him by the scarf and dragged him to the light post, saying he must be hung. He then asked another Beefeater what should be done to the young lad, and the reply was, “Off with his head!”

So was this a good idea, abandoning my extended family and taking the gang for a trip abroad? And was Thanksgiving or the winter a good time? Let me address the last question first: if you want to travel to Europe, the time to do it is October-April, IMO. Crowds are scarce and you just get a better feel for any destination you head. For the first question, I would say a resounding yes. I love my parents and siblings and don’t see them nearly enough, so it is not an easy thing to turn away from them. We alternate holidays with the different families, so this Thanksgiving would have been at Sweetie’s parents, who don’t have extended family to entertain. Since we’re only two hours away from them in G-Vegas, it’s much easier to hop up and see them at our leisure. However, trips like these are points in time for the kids that will be burned into their memory. All-In especially is great buddies with C, and it will be a difficult week as they’re apart.

This adventure also has impacted me in a couple of different ways. With my family, we need to get out of the house and do things rather than just falling into a rut of television and sofas. My dad normally does a good job of trying to make this happen, but I need to be more proactive in supporting it. This also spurs me more in my business to find some things to utilize my knowledge and skills better. I miss being out and about, and I’m ready to get going. I don’t know necessarily what that means yet, but we’ll figure it out.

Have a good day, and wish me luck that the Little Guy either gets himself upgraded to Business Class or passes out in a couple hours.
