Post Mortem from the Collapse
I’m now in emotional recovery mode from my spectacular evaporation of funds, a blitzkrieg of online bankroll transfer from me to others around the world. I’ve had a chance to review the session, and it isn’t very pretty.
In a word, it was just horrible, horrible play by me. Uncharacteristic chasing, very bad decisions with starting hands. 201 hands of $10/20 LHE, -$2,051. I’m no math whiz (I used to be), but that I believe is -$10 per hand dealt. Chalk up the -$585 lost in eight hands of $30/60 6-max LHE as a final blip. The other part was two tabling and short handed, where I adjusted very poorly and kept playing in a firehose of chip debris.
So where do you go from here? I’ve decided I want to get to flat for the month, which would be a great accomplishment for this last week or so. After a +$250 day, I need another +$436 to get there. This occurrence has happened to me now a half dozen times in the last two years (losing >25% of my bankroll in one session–24.7% this time, but let’s round up for the sake of argument). It is what it is, and it’s now gone. I know most of the few fans I have actually enjoy the candor of these horrible runs that I’m prone to, as I’m nothing if not candid about results and how I got there. For the comments and emails I’ve received, I do really appreciate it, and I’m very thankful to virtual buddies who have reached out to me. Special thanks to bayne and pokerpeaker for humoring me in recovery last night at a $2/4 LHE table. peaker, who you may know will be taking home twins sometime this summer, has a delivery date pool he’s starting, so check that out. And thanks to kat and haley for special nice thoughts.
Not alot of pimping here, but any friend ready to cheer me up a bit is welcome to turn out Thursday night. Bring your cheer and your barbs, I can take both of them! I’ll hopefully head to the Mook tonight as well. Take care, and remember: bankroll management!

CC,
Glad I could help with recovery.
Glad it was the 8 rather than K that rivered when you were chasing this.
At least you didn’t re-raise me at river on this one, I would have needed to call your wife and arrange an intervention.
I am sure I will return cash to you at some point in future.

You know its part of the swings of the cruel game we play. And the worst part is I bet your kicking yourself because you kind of knew it was coming especially the way you’ve been playing over the last week or so. But this is a week that you can learn from (i know ive had weeks like this) and get back to playing solid poker. Just put a couple of sessions of solid poker together and all this will just a thing of past. The hardest part I think is getting your confidence back and it looks like your on the right track…
