Home Game at CC’s Suburban Palace

I’ve had a few home games here before, but this was the christening by real live poker players.

Our game became six-handed due to an illness, another home game, and a broken down vehicle.  weak, Mrs Weak, kurokitty, surf, kuro’s and gnome’s friend Hal, and CC.  Short handed, we were able to play some games that you wouldn’t normally find at a full-ring table, games from all around the world.  They include

  • Reverse flop holdem (CC innovation, one on flop, turn, and three on river)
  • Crazy Pineapple (single flop and double flop)
  • Holdem (NLHE, PLHE, double flop)
  • Omaha (Hi, H/L, PLO)
  • Stud
  • Razz
  • Badugi (a horrible game where you chase and call every bet only to not get a hand every time).
  • Indonesian Omaha (after the turn betting round, each player still in draws one card from the person on the left, deal river card, and playing commences)
  • Triple Draw 2-7 (with surf randomly deciding if we are drawing twice or four times)

The stud games were played with the button ante of $2, from there the stud and limit games were $2/4.  For the pot-limit and no-limit, the blinds were $1/2.  Besides the hand that kurokitty describes where he misread his hand and bet me out of a pot rather than checking the turn and letting me catch the nut straight on the river, most of the pots were small except for the one massive pot of the evening.

The game was O8, Omaha H/L, and it was either pot-limit or no-limit, I don’t remember exactly.  I was dealt 10-10-9-8 with two clubs, and I limped on the button with surf checking his bb and I think a couple of others in the pot.  The flop came K-10-x with two spades.  I think that surf checked, I bet, and he raised (I bet $10, and he raised to $30 I believe, and I called).  This was after I’d been raised a couple of times by kuro in a similar fashion, but I definitely thought surf could have limped with kings.  He’s not one for random wanderings in a pot.  A blank club came on the turn, giving me a flush draw without improving.  Surf then moved all-in for another maybe $125 or so.  I don’t exactly remember, but it was in that ballpark.  So I think the pot must have been $80 or so and he must have bet $125.  First, this shows that I had no clue what the math of this was as I have no clue what the pot was nor what the bet was.  I think maybe I was 30% to win, although I hardly figured this out at the time and still don’t know if that’s the case as I’d also forgotten that we were playing H/L and I don’t know if a low was live or not with the blanks.  I of course end up calling, spike a club on the river, and take the biggest pot of the night.  I think it was anywhere from a poor play to a horrible play, and I didn’t feel that great about basically having a read that he had the kings yet calling for the case 10 or a club.  Anyone who knows better than me please chime in, but I obviously could have been drawing so dead here.

So I ended up the big winner due to this one hand.  Without it, I was a slight winner I think.  Surf took the bath due to this hand, and everyone else one or lost a little.  The nice thing is I think we have the core of a good solid game.  I probably have a couple of neighbors who could hang with this crew, but even without we could get a nice fun game of decent stakes with eight or nine of us.  I’ll definitely do it again.

Thanks again guys and lady for coming out, and have a good weekend.

    2. No, I’m not only saying that because I had a made Badugi four out of the six hands we played.
    3. That Indonesian Omaha will either get you tarred and feathered or canonized.

TT98 even on the button will get you in trouble in O8. If you can firmly put him on KKXX then a fold is correct especially since he could be freerolling the club draw as well.

Do you plan on folding to a paired board?
