As we head into the weekend, I feel great about our plan to hit the ground running next week when the WSOP kicks off.
Our team of writers will be extremely strong in experience, and I know I’ll learn a ton from working with them. Dan Michalski is a seasoned pro, and we were extremely fortunate to have him join the team. He’s the driving force behind Pokerati and led PartyPoker‘s blog during last year’s World Series. He’ll be firing on all cylinders as he keeps Pokerati going while contributing unique insight on PokerWorks.
Amy Calistri will be contributing regularly to PokerWorks as well. I was a bit starstruck when I introduced myself to Amy last year, just as I was when I met Pauly for the first time as well as IGGY. She’s one of the creators of all this yet isn’t an old fart, and I quickly said hello then ran back to my laptop in the Media Room. She will provide some juicy pieces throughout the World Series, and you won’t want to miss any of them.
Katie Lindsay will be coming out in the second week, and hopefully she’ll have plenty of time to delve into the world of the name pros that we think we know so well. Falstaff will be adding to the coverage, albeit from Stratford-on-Avon or some such place.
I’ll be writing away as well as playing cheerleader and traffic cop. We’ll be trying to add to the coverage of the World Series with a goal of providing a deeper sense of what it means to be in the center of the poker universe. Our coverage will include:
- Cash Games and Satellites an undercovered area, Dan will bring us what’s happening at the Rio’s cash tables and beyond. This should be some of the most interesting parts of our coverage.
- Fifty States in Fifty Days I’ll be tackling this, profiling a player a day from every state in our Union. This one won’t be particularly easy, so if anyone knows of some young phenom from Vermont or North Dakota, please send them my way…
- Online Best Here we’ll split up the poker sites and bring you the players dominating online poker and how they’re shaping up at the World Series. We’re still seeing the continued penetration of online pros taking scalps on the felt, and this summer should be no exception.
- The Globe Amy will head our coverage of international players as this should be a record year for the percentage of non-US players at the Rio. You’ll hear about those we know as well as the top players from the growth nations for poker.
- Hot News We’ll have daily wraps of the events, giving you a great place to come for a synopsis of what happened to whom. We’ll also work to bring you behind the scenes stories at the Rio.
- Cast of Characters The World Series brings out some strange birds, and we’ll bring you into their world. If we can figure it out.
Hope everyone has a great holiday, and also hope you figured out that my Five Worst Poker Blogs are actually some of my favorites…
Have a great, safe weekend.
OK. Even as an “old hand” at this, I’m starting to get down right excited. I can’t wait to see everyone out in Vegas – which will become the epicenter of poker for the next seven weeks. Shuffle up and Deal, already!
