Lucko Near the Top of the Leaderboard
Lucko is having a whale of an early Day 1D. Head to his blog for regular updates.
Of course, Nick Fulton, who I don’t know, disses my coverage of Kevin and Shawn, so whatever. As you know, comparing someone to Jason Strasser is the highest form of compliment for me, and I’ve seen Kevin run over Final Tables when he gets chips.
Kevin “lucko21″ O’Brien
Shawn “sprstoner” Glines
I first met both these guys in the crazy IP game with smokkee and a few others who I don’t remember at the December WPBT.
Brad, Shawn, Kevin
I went to the PokerStars Supernova party, was dead wood with Otis and Klaus the German guy (meaning my introverted self wasn’t too entertaining), got ready to leave, and these two guys pop out of the elevator. I had MeanGene cooling his heels in the poker room, but I decided to hang with them. Tremendous fun, a couple of nut boxes. I didn’t want to leave, although my wife probably would be glad I did.
I’ve had great luck with my pimpage: the overall chipleader is the guy I covered after the dinner break last night, others have come back from the brink or run strong.
I’m having dinner with Fuel in forty-five minutes. Another punch to the gut for him. Pretty much a downer.
Linda’s son Dan. I’ll be doing an article on his WSOP Main Event experience. He and Linda were going to play in a Mega-satellite, she backed out, and he won his seat a few days ago. He’s sitting around 28k and just had his table broken.
In case anyone needs this info, 6,358 enter the Main Event, prize pool of $59,784,954 for $20,320 to cash in 621st place and $8,250,000 to take the bracelet. Update later.
UPDATE 12:30AM
John Phan has been at the table for the last few hours. You can read the recap of his initial time with lucko here. Kevin has around 68k now. Stoner lost half his stack with the same hand as another guy. They both flopped the same hand, but the villain had a flush draw that he made. He should have gone busto, but he sits at 29k
An even better story is that of Michael Lynn, who gained alot of coverage last year on the ESPN Feature Table with his mom Liz. He surged to the chip lead today and sits at 170k closing in on Level 6. It’s a long journey, but I can’t be more excited for the two of them.
