A Topsy-Turvy Session
I ended up down -$138 including a -$500 table where everything that could go wrong did. It was a great comeback from even worse.
The -$500 table had a couple of tough hands: nut flush draw vs jacks where I check-raised the flop, queens vs flopped set of eights where I got caught after the flop as I raised the original raiser. I won no pots of any substance over 194 hands at that table, and I had a few other tough hands elsewhere. I flopped a set with presto (55) and got the kings to move all-in on the flop (rivered a king). AA cracked by KK, etc. Played a few horrible hands as well, the worst was calling a small raise with 9s-7s, flop came 7-4-3, I go to the mat vs the button who had flopped the straight with 6-5. This hand was very early in the first session, and I don’t think I was in a good state to be playing (meaning I just popped up the game vs. having some sort of game plan). The worst table was actually one of my tightest tables, with VP$IP of 19.57%.
I seem to be improving in my 6-max NLH game, although I still think I have a long way to go. I’m probably in the competent phase now. I also am not sure about what stakes to be playing. I’ve four-tabled $0.25/0.50 to $1/2 NLH and seem to be fine at any of these. I haven’t played enough $1/2 NLH to get a great read on it, although it is certainly trickier with more plays at pots etc.
In other poker news, PokerNews purchased NeverWin Poker.  I’m not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things. You can read my interview with Tony G from this summer.
