Weekend in Review: Back and Forth and Chatting with Liz
I’d clawed and clawed my way up headed to a big winning weekend but losing big hands is not normally the way to lead to success.

I’m actually very pleased with my transition to NLHE 6-max four-tabling. First, as any regular reader can attest, my greatest achievement in poker is not to go bust, so going a month without going busto is great. I’m playing well within my bankroll, so that’s great. At least I think I am. A standard set-up for me is four $0.50/1 NLH or $1/2 NLH tables, and my Stars bankroll is between $4k-5k. I’ll defer to others to let me know if that is fine for buy-in vs. bankroll.
I’m also less than 2500 FPP points away from being PlatinumStar VIP on Stars. I think I’ll probably make it without any monstrous special effort. I definitely need to play the freerolls, but I’m not sure the big advantage of Platinum vs Gold there. Any heavy users please let me know.
cmitch had a Top 100 finish in the FullTilt Main Event last night, and Lucko had a great run as well (although he busted out quickly after I said hello to him, about 235th or so I think).
Sweetie and I headed to dinner and a movie (Stardust, which was very good, very funny). During the movie, my phone vibrated so I glanced at it. The call was from Liz Lieu, who had just recently arrived back from London to Las Vegas. If you haven’t been keeping up, Liz has moved to London where she’s pursuing a variety of business opportunities. Hers is an example of the challenges facing US poker pros regarding endorsements and other opportunities. I called Liz when we got back home, and we had a great meandering conversation. Lots of topics, not the least of which was the sticker shock she’s seeing in London with everything. The numbers on the price tags are often the same in London and New York, which is fine except that 1 pound is worth $1.98 or so. She’s facing a period of not very fun times, I think; trying to find a flat somewhere in London that is safe and nice, globe-trotting and dealing physically with jetlag and health, and being far away from family and friends. I’m pulling for Liz. I don’t think I’m a big name-dropper when it comes to players, but I think Liz has moved from being a poker player to a friend, which is great.
btw, if you want to see Patrik Antonius staring into your eyes, head to his new website.
And in case you missed, IGGY is now one of the greatest bass fisherman East of the Mississippi. Which is kind of like being a tall midget. Which he is, come to think of it.

I think you have to call that river.

Oh, my bad. I didn’t see the flush. I can see a fold now.

Yeah, probably thirty minutes later I started chatting with him; he told me he made the flush, which I was fairly certain he’d made.

Your turn bet did price him into the call. I guess the other question is if that would have made him fold. With that stack, many will gamble. If he had a decent profit going, that’d be less likely. But you’d have still forced the issue with the best hand at that point. If he had 17 outs, so be it.
He likely misbet if he had the flush. He should have tried for a value bet. Although, that overbet is one of Fuel’s likes against many players. But the betting was such here that I’d think Fuel might have value bet the flush. You never really represented what you had.
As to his response on the flush, it’d be silly to tell the guy he was bet out of his socks. Believe em when you see em. I’m not saying he lied but the potential is there.
On dangerous boards like that, I think you need to either make a real turn bet or be ready to concede the hand to the danger card like you did.
