January SNG Quest: The second half

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I had prepared myself for the inevitable downswing. I knew that beautiful 43% SNG ROI I posted in the first half of January couldn’t last for long. Perhaps my post jinxed it for me. Because I proceeded to lose the next fifteen straight.

Bodog ends endorsement contract with Jamie Gold

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Bodog has ended their relationship with and sponsorship of 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jamie Gold. This news was first reported this morning as a blind item of sorts in PokerNews’ “rumor” section, and was later confirmed with an official statement from Bodog and in an article from the boys at Wicked Chops Poker.

The River Nine

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I sadly left my own personal palace at Caesar’s at noon on Sunday without playing a lick of live poker during my stay. After the Poker Dome taping finished up, I grabbed some dinner and headed back to my room to write my article and once I finished it, “I’ll just close my eyes for 10 minutes then go downstairs and find a game” led to me waking up completely disoriented at 5 A.M., wondering where the time had gone.

Viva la Caesar’s!

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

My jaw dropped when I opened the door to my room. It was nearly the size of my two-bedroom L.A. apartment. Fluffy white king bed with a chic tan leather headboard. An entire “living room” area complete with a velvet eggplant-colored couch , a coffee table, and two plush easy chairs. A “dining room” area with two periwinkle high-backed velvet chairs flanking an elegant mahogany round table. A bathroom with an elegant vanity and a seperate room for the toilet. Not to mention the two flat-screen TVs, one of which is in the bathroom. I got to watch The Apprentice while blow-drying my hair for Christ’s sake.

May ye rest in peace.

Once again, I’d lilke to thank my government for telling me how I should live my life and what I should do with my time. I’d also like to thank it for putting my livelihood in jeopardy for the third time in twelve months. I’m not sure my nervous system can take this shit anymore. Screw pot, I’m going to have to turn to booze AND drugs to get through this…

Jen Leo and the Beverly Hills Homegame

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Jen Leo emailed me last week to see if I wanted to play in her regular homegame, a two-table, $20 buy-in affair that usually took place in Cheviot Hills, but for that night was moving to the 90210 zip code, and would be hosted by the dynamic duo of Dave and Cotie, an engaged couple who had just finished a soup-to-nuts remodel of their Beverly Hills home. I love Jen and I’m a degenterate gambler… like I’m not gonna play poker at a totally gorgeous house that’s only a three-minute drive away?

The Full Tilt Jet

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

David Chiu never thought he’d grow up to be a rock star. But he sure looked like one as he arrived in Melbourne, Australia on the Full Tilt jet and was greeted by throngs of breathelss fans. The plane carried poker luminaries such as Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, and Erick Lindgren, as well as Hunting Fish author Jay Greenspan and the WPBT’s very own expatriate Full Tilter HDouble!

Harrah’s rolled out their schedule for the 2007 World Series of Poker today, which includes a slew of changes in terms of tournament selection and variety. Last year’s NLHE-fest has been greatly diversified to include over a dozen new events. They’re also promising enough space for 300 tables in one room, increasing the player capacity to 3000 (up from about 2300 this year). 55 bracelets will be awarded in all, up from last year’s 46.

Here’s a quick look at the major changes:
