Mon dieu! EPT Deauville Cancelled

John Caldwell just reported over at PokerNews that the European Poker Tour has cancelled its planned third-season stop at the French Poker Open in Deauville, France. The tournament was to take place at the Deauville Casino from February 20-24, 2007 and culminate in an $8,000 main event.

PokerStars had been running both cash and Frequent Player Point (FPP) satellites to Deauville for the last several months. According to the stats on their site, 33 players had earned their tournament buy-in via cash qualifiers while 12 others, including 2004 WSOP Main Event champion and Team PokerStars member Greg Raymer, qualified using FPPs.

Recently, the EPT added two new events to their schedule in response to the tour’s explosive popularity including a stop at Dortmund, Germany’s Casino Hohensyburg and another at the Hyatt Regency in Warsaw, Poland. Satellites to both of these events are still running on PokerStars (though I’m not totally sold on Warsaw as a vacation destination) ;) Check out the entire EPT schedule here.

The exact reasoning behind the French Poker Open’s cancellation is still a mystery, though the EPT is expected to release a statement soon. Stay tuned!

NO! That’s such a lovely event. John won in and took me last year. The hotel was splendid, the town so charming, and the poker tourney room extravagant. I think we were crossing our fingers he’d make it in again so we could go back.

Darn it. Thanks for sharing this news.
