It’s Day 3 of the L.A. Poker Classic and my temporary home is the Ramada Commerce, only a 2-mile trip from the casino down an access road that runs alongside of the 5 freeway. Every night I’ve driven home from the tournament so far I’ve seen people being pulled over and arrested on that stretch of desolate road, peppered with warehouses, car-repair shops, sketchy motels, and a drive-thru lumberyard. The nicest of the no-tell motels is the Best Western Montebello Plaza, it’s neon sign reading “ask us about wedding packages!” (more…)

After a 2 week hiatus, I got back on the horse and played another blogger tournament. Pauly was feeling well enough to play in the Riverchasers tourney and I decided to join him, having really nothing better to do until the series finale of The O.C. came on at 9 PM. (more…)

I was having trouble sleeping last night and found myself watching Poker After Dark as it aired, not on Tivo as I usually enjoy it. PokerWorks’ own Tony G. was playing, with Chris Ferguson, Clonie Gowen, Sammy Farha, Ted Forrest and Gus Hansen rounding out the table. Without the ability to zip through the commercials with the touch of a button, I stumbled upon the debut of Full Tilt Poker’s three new 30-second TV spots. (more…)

I hopped on to Full Tilt last night to play a couple of SNGs and grabbed a seat in a $1-2 O8 game as well. About 15 minutes into my session, this guy decided to pay the low-limit crowd a visit. (more…)

I mean, seriously. This shit isn’t supposed to happen every single time I sit down to play poker. And the scary thing is, that once the turn card came down (and I had dropped from a 93% favorite to a mere 76% favorite) I already knew I was going to lose and said out loud “here comes the 6.” And there it was…

I went out of cc’s Bash as a 93% favorite on the flop. Think flopping the nut straight will hold up for me against Fuel55’s top pair, OK kicker and backdoor flush draw one pip above my backdoor flush draw?

Tuesday night, “Poker Diva” Liz Lieu took down event #12 at the L.A. Poker Classic, a $1,000+60 buy-in NLHE affair that paid the 30-year old poker pro/fashionista a $148,370 top prize. Lieu now has another enormous horse-shaped trophy to go on her mantle next to the one she took home last year for winning the $1,060 limit hold’em event. Commerce is practically a second home for Liz, who is regarded as one of the most feared players in the lineup at the casino’s $300-$600 and $400-$800 limit hold’em cash games. Even better, Liz will be donating 20% of her tournament score to three seperate charities.

It’s Hammer Day, poker players! Actually, today (2/7) is only the first hammer day of this year. Don’t count out 2/27 (hammer flop), 7/2 (just in time for the WSOP), and 7/27. It is also, of course, the year of our Lord 2007… the Hammer Year. Sacred indeed.
