Monte Carlo Bloggers and Barney Frank’s UIGEA Attack Plan
Pauly and Otis are in Monte Carlo and man am I jealous! The Dr. has some nice shots up from his first day in town. My personal favorite is the one of Shaniac in those uber-ghey silver sneakers. Footwear like that could only fly in Europe. Of course a stay in one of the most expensive cities in the known universe has it’s caveats. Like $8 Diet Cokes and $30 cheeseburgers that don’t even come with fries.
Both of these guys are (drinking) hard at work to provide you with top-notch coverage of the EPT Grand Final. 700 players, 2 million Euros for first, and the return of Aussie Millions runner-up and poster child for virginity, Gobboboy.
Dr. Pauly, Shronk and Tiffany “HotChips” Michelle are all live on PokerNews.com. Check out the Roland deWolfe video where he talks about how he prop bet Andy Black on flop colors to win something sicko like 8 grand.
Otis is heading up the team over at the PokerStars Blog. They have a rare photo up of Barry Greenstein where he actually does NOT look like he’s dying.
I take all UIGEA-related news with a big grain of salt these days, but this piece for Poker Player Newspaper by writer, consultant and tragic hat aficionado Wendeen Eolis caught my eye. In short, Rep. Barney Frank confirms that he will be spearheading an anti-UIGEA legislative effort beginning in mid-April. This will include, after extensive consulting and research, the introduction of his own bill to overturn the UIGEA (sort of a poker carve-out plus). His top deputy in this effort will be fellow representative Shelley Berkeley of Nevada.
Another interesting wrinkle the article suggests is that rather than working closely on the lobbying end with the PPA’s newly elected chairman former Senator Alfonse D’Amato, Frank will be working his connections with that other former New York Senator, Tom Downey, a partner in the D.C. lobbying firm Downey McGrath, Inc.
PPA=DOA?
I’m like, the least techie person ever (my cell phone can’t even receive pictures) but you know what my favorite new thing is right now? SKYPE! It’s like Instant Messenger on blow and steroids and the best feature of all is that anyone can use it to make free international phone calls to other Skype users. I have this totally geeky headset I plug into the audio jacks on the side of my laptop and Pauly and I can chat for free across 6000 miles and 9 time zones. I so wish we had figured out Skype before he went to Australia– it woulda saved him a lot of hassle with international phone cards and such. Props to Schecky for bringing Skype into my life and best wishes to him and the Poker Shrink. There’s some weird juju going around and both of them hurt their backs this weekend ![]()

Does Frank have any kind of chance of repealing this law? I mean really. Won’t representatives take that as endorsing poker? No matter how stupid that sounds and how stupid the law really is?
God I hope so.

Change,
This is actually more a response to your other blog site, since I don’t have a Google account set up yet. As someone who has NEVER watched American Idol, I’ve got to say that I still look forward to your weekly recaps, and, to take a poker slant, do you realize that Negreanu is now copying your moves and blogged Idol this week? Now you two have more in common than vicious bad beats and brilliant card reading skills.
BTW- One of my best friends is co-authoring "Chicken Soup for the American Idol Lover’s Soul" (look where THAT franchise has gone). I can put her in touch with you if you’d like to submit a story for the book.
