Odds and Ends from the WSOPC Caesar’s

A surprisingly strong pro contingent showed up to play the $5,000 WSOP Circuit Event at Caesar’s Palace today. 336 players bought in, including World Series bracelet winners like Chris Ferguson, Greg Raymer, Scotty Nguyen, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Max Pescatori, Mark Seif, David Williams and Kathy Liebert as well as online superstars Shaniac, Nordberg, tsoprano, Takeover, TMay420, and TheWacoKidd. I’m honored again to be part of the PokerNews reporting team, an all-star lineup if there ever was one. The gang was all there today: Schecky, Shrink, Shronk, B.J., Amy, Tiffany, Leeanne and Pauly.

Here’s a few choice moments from today:

The always-stylish Evelyn Ng made an early exit from the tournament and adjourned to the Fendi and Gucci boutiques at the Forum Shops for a little retail therapy. She returned to the tournament area later in the afternoon with an armful of shopping bags. Commence purse envy…

David Benyamine needs a pedicure. Take him to the spa, Erica once you’re done making a run at this title. Ms. Schoenberg ended the day with 57,000 in chips after making a sick comeback in the early evening, having been all the way down to 3200 before the dinner break.

Chad Brown wore a foul-looking corduroy paisley-print button down shirt that featured mostly orange hues. Most of those words should never end up in a sentence together. For the love of God, please let Vanessa take you to Hugo Boss or something.

On the other end of the clothing spectrum, Shane “Shaniac” Schleger earns my shirt of the day award for obvious reasons.Â

Anna Wroblewski was back, adorable as ever. Her amazing run continues as she won the WSOP Circuit Ladies’ Event Sunday night, adding another $18,000 to her bankroll. She has now topped $400,000 in winnings in the last two weeks. She was building a decent stack when she ran into quads twice on back to back hands, ending her tournament.

After downing a few creamy-looking cocktails in the first couple of levels, Layne Flack ordered a bottle of French white wine to his table along with two glasses, one for him, and one for the guy in the 1 seat. The bottle sat behind him in an elegant silver ice bucket as he bluffed and bullied his way to a big stack (and a nice buzz).

At some point I heard that Jeff Madsen is dating Trishelle from the Real World. (coughgolddiggercough).

There were such juicy $5-10 NL cash games running at Caesar’s that even Paul Wasicka took a seat after busting from the event.

Gavin Smith decided to check with the floorman in advance regarding which curse words earned a player penalties and which did not. He was the most concerned about “anal.”

Speaking of Gavin, you have to watch this video Shonk and Tiffany shot for PokerNews. Smith answers the Inside the Actors’ Studio questionnaire and it’s priceless.

Pauly lost yet another NBA bet. He liked Denver only because Erick Lindgren said he liked them and it goes along with his whole “bet home dogs” theory. He lost that one. Then in the second game, the Wizards needed to lose by 6 or less and they lost by 7. He checked the score just as we passed the Mirage sportsbook on our way back to the tournament from dinner break and promptly went on tilt.

“At this point I have lost 4 grand on this trip. I’ve lost my entire paycheck! And you can quote me on that” Pauly lamented.

While we were waiting for my (beautiful shiny new) car at valet, Michael Binger sat alone on an adjacent bench. He eventually got into a black Lexus GX400 with CA plates. Nice ride.

Play picks up again at noon tomorrow and you can follow all the action on PokerNews.

Shit. Thanks to that statement, I lost a $50 bet that Madsen is still a virgin…
