Getting Past Conservative Play

Played a FT Freeroll this afternoon at 3:40 p.m.  Didn’t do well in this one.  I was using it to practice being less conservative in my play and to raise 3X or more to take out players with weak hands early.  I finished up #1193 of 2700 but I did learn a bit about what I have to do to weed players out and try to read those players who are left in the hands with me.  I mostly got slammed but did win a few hands.  The flop was either there for me or not.  No help came for me on the turn or the river as I watched closely what they came up to be even if I had folded.

Every little bit of knowledge helps, so nothing lost but time with everything to gain.  My last hand, I caught pocket tens with only 595 chips left so I went all-in and the table looked like this in the end:

My pairs of tens went up against AQ and the flop brought my opponent the Ace needed to win.  So away I went.

Even the blog title suggest that you are getting better and better.

Yes, the final hand was unfortunate. But, your stack dictated the move and probably dictated the call. You can’t generate any fear with that stack. Don’t know what the blinds were but it is likely callable with any two cards.

You ended up with the caller as much for the stack you had and that points out the need to make a move sooner. You can do it with some ugly cards when things are approaching an M=10. That is counter intuitive and can subject the play to criticism but it is as good or better than being really short stacked.

You are doing good. Keep it up!

Thanks for the encouragement. I never realized there was so much to learn about this game!
