Why I love the game

Here are the reasons I love poker -

Example 1:

$0.50 NLH - Limit $15-30 - I have 1330 in chips - I posted the $15 SB - I’m dealt 7s-8s. Three players call 30. Paleal2 raises to $60. I called $45 more, the BB folds, the three players calle the raise.

The FLOP 9d-Jc-10h - Jiggers, I just flopped a straight with no way to improve my hand. Should I bet a min amount, should I bet a medium amount, should I check and get ready to fold, should I go All-in? All those thoughts ran through my head. OK, my hand isn’t going to improve, perhaps if I all-in-it, I can win the pot right there. So I did! All-in-it that is.

I bet 1270

With no hesitation gibby9000 calls 1190 and is all-in

It took paleal2 a bit of time to decide to overcall 1270.

The TURN brought the 9s

The RIVER brought the Ac

I’m not surprised, shocked, or having a problem with any of it. Check out the results of the hand.

Example two:

This was LH and we were at the $200-400 blind level. I raised pre-flop, making it $800 to go, (I3.18.08.lh.donkfest.jpg don’t have a hand history on this one but I clearly remember raising the flop when gucci14 bet $400 and eyeopener called. Why did I raise the flop with 7-7? You would have to have been there. They all called the bet which put all three of them all-in. I won a small side pot, eyeopener took the pig’s share. But how can you not love these people putting their money in when this is the flop? And the play is rocking and rolling - just like this - from the start of the first hand. Color me in the game, Baby!

Example three:

Another reason I love the game of poker is that mila024 put in every raise on, on every card, in every hand for the first hour and a half I played with him. At one point he had over 10K in chips - that was much later. Look at the size of the pot and we were at $30-60 blinds. Needless to say every hand was six and seven way action, capped on every street because another player in the game was trying to ‘catch’. Mila024 was still in the game when I was busted out but back down to about 4K from 10K when I left. How can you not love this action?

So the list of beats and wins goes on and on and on and on…

Example four:

razz.3.19.08.jpg

Razz - $10 + $1 buy-in, 104 players, we started with $3K in chips, limit $10-20. When you look at this picture, you may ask yourself how I was still in the hand - looking at everyone else’s door card should give you a clue. I was the original raiser, the bet was capped on every street, and I made three pair on the river - nope - couldn’t call. I think a 10 low won the hand. If you can read the chat, take a look at it. Obviously there were two players in our game that didn’t know what Razz was…do I have to mention names? One of them ended up sitting out after we got to $30-60 limit and never came back, they were blinded/anted off.

linda_1_1.jpgGlenda was my main sweater and we had a chat back and forth as I sat through more pairs than I can ever remember picking up in any game play in my life. I played very few hands. When I started with a great 3 card low, I either bricked and pitched on the next card, or got no callers when I raised. Somehow I made it to third place. Once we hit the final table, NaomiGrace had all the chips and couldn’t miss…no matter what she played. And she likes to play. That was a very good thing for me. I pitched and watched her bust out everyone down to me and the other contender. I never made a hand. I anted, opened, and pitched. When I got down to 1844 in chips, the limit was 3K-6K and the ante was 600. I knew if I caught anything 10 or under I was going all-in.

My final stand was made with 8-9-7 against a J and a 10 showing. Obviously I can’t shake anyone because they’ve already brought in the bet for 900 - almost as much as I have in front of me. I caught J-K-J and I was out. If it hadn’t been that hand, it would have been the next, I would have had to have gone on a major WIN rush to catch up as I was up against 264,894 and 45,262 in chips.

I won $124.80 - BR $517. 27

And those are the reasons I love the game.

C U there! PokerStars - of course!

Congrats, Linda! It is amazing in those low stakes tourneys of razz and H/L as to how many people play who have clearly never played the game before. BTW- Played a few minutes of razz yesterday, and got 24 completely unplayable hands (most with big paired paint in the hole, no kidding) in a row before deciding that masochism was not my idea of a good time. Never played a single hand, and left. LOL
