The Cowboys and Ladies

OK ladies and gentlemen, the saga continues.  I played in a Poker Stars HE Freeroll at 3:32 p.m.  Another one of those 99 players go to the next tourney deals.I wasn’t setting the table on fire but it was at least luke-warm and I was hanging in there hoping for a chance of making it to the top 99.  No matter what I had done, I was not able to get myself a comfortable bank roll that would allow me to sit back and watch everyone else duke it out.  There were 670 players left of 12,000 and I only had 6,000 chips.  (This was the most I had the whole game).  When I would get a hand, nobody wanted to play and when I didn’t have one, everyone was in but me!

Anyway, I caught a pocket pair of Queens and was leery from the get-go.  I don’t usually do well with the royal ladies.  Blinds were 200/400 and I went with 800 to start and was called by only one player who had about 35,000 chips.  The flop came as K,K,J so now there were two pair on the table for me but they were the dreaded Kings, as you may recall, which usually get me royally flushed.  And, the bigger concern was “what did the other player have?”  He checked and I checked (guess we were both wondering if the other had a third King) and the turn came as 9.

He went All-In and I just could not decide whether to bail or not and, of course, I just had to go for it, being my idiot self.  He had A,Q and the River came as an A so he got me in the end.  Why couldn’t that 9 have been a 10?  Booted out by Royalty Plus More! $Maxiecat$

OUCH! I would have punished him with a bet on the flop - a big one. If he had a K, oh well. If not, he almost can’t call. Just a thought.

Just a suggestion that worked pretty well for me…. full tilt has a 500k chip freeroll at 8 every night - the most I’ve ever seen in it is about 50 people, top 18 get paid (18-3 = $2, 2=$3 and 1=$5)
You basically have to double up once, then coast to the $$. I’ve played it a few times, won twice, 2nd 3 times, and $2 a couple times…. it’s by far the easiest way to start a free bankroll. It didn’t take very long to get to 3mil in play chips, and from there I built up enough free cash to play some $2 sng’s (I STILL cannot beat the $1 sng’s - WAY too donkish for me), and now up to a couple hundred. I started this plan before I knew about the chris fergeson thing just to see if I could do it, but it was great to see that I had come up with almost the exact same rules and have some confirmation that it was possible. Good luck to you, hope it works out!

Thanks much, Jeff, I will definitely check that out! I need to start with something, somewhere!

Linda, I hear you, but they never fold on my punishing power plays and then I get flushed in the end.
