Fritzing around and going nowhere fast
I played NLH and Razz yesterday. In the Razz, I won one small pot, only went to 7 cards about three times, picked up a pair every hand or three face cards and just watched the game go by. If I’d been playing a 7 stud game, I would have went broke early or won the tournament if I connected with the same hands I had in Razz. But my record with Razz is not all bad, I’ve placed in the money in two of the tourneys I played in and I think I’ve played in four, two out of four isn’t a bad showing. Mitchell left a comment for me yesterday on the Razz with a NLH Chaser post.
In yesterday’s NLH tourney, I placed in the $ but I still question the play of the person that busted me.
Maybe I’m just a diptard but I wouldn’t have called with his hand. It went like this. It was a $2 + 20c event with 2575 players involved. Blinds were 3K-6K with a 600 ante. I had 46,170 in chips and had been card dead for three weeks or so. We were getting down to where the $ payout was due to change drastically and moving up a few places would mean more, more, more.
I was middle position and found K-Q off and raised it 39,570 to a total of 45,570 (I had paid the ante). Everyone folded to the BB, who called with A-3 of hearts. The BB had a shitload of chips - 222,988. Neither of us improved and I was out in 24th place, collecting a super duper $11.34. I wouldn’t have called that raise with his hand, but maybe one of you could expound on it a bit and clear up the picture for me…
Today I dumped off almost $20 in a live $1-2 7 stud 8 game before I gave it up and took a nap…sleeping seemed like a great idea compared to my attitude about the game.
I played in a NLH $3 + 30c after the nap. I got beat after I had them right where I wanted them and they got away. I was in the BB with the K-5 of spades - ante $50, blinds 300-600.
The Flop was 3h-Kh-5d.
ark623 was in the SB and checked, I bet 1600, JOrros called 1600, and ark623 check raised 935 more (total 2535, all-in). I knew JOrros would call because he’d raised almost every hand since I hit that table and we’d tangled once before. The worst part of his play is that when he raised pre-flop, he checked if his opponent checked…nice play buddy.
The turn brought the Jd and I bet 5,600, JOrros called. The last card brought the 8s and I bet my last 1976 in chips and JOrros called. I really didn’t think the 8 hurt me but it was a killer-diller. JOrros had K-8 of diamonds. I want to puke here. ark623 showed 10h-8h. I’d feel better if one of them made a flush, don’t ask me why but it’s the way my sick brain works. And if a flush card came, I might have been able to get off the hand.
I finished 225th out of 1828 players and locked up a massive $5.48 for my efforts. BR $466.05. I need a win DAMN IT!

Linda,
From Harrington’s perspective, with an M of about 3, you could have made your move with any two cards from middle position at that point in the tourney (in fact, Harrington would suggest that you do just that in an unentered pot). Especially in an online game, people will not necessarily be paying attention to the fact that you hadn’t been playing anything other than premium cards. But either way, the BB may reasonably have thought they were ahead, and they were right, albeit only slightly.

“Think” is the key word here. I doubt most of them think anything in these small buy-in tourneys, except “what the hell it is only $2″…
Sorry you encountered the curse of “King-little” but at least the K-8 was suited, the ones who nailed me were off-suit!
As far as the A-little suited, most of these low buy-in tourney players think that is a HUGE hand…
