The Battle Rages On…
At times this seems like poker wars, one battle at a time, trying to emerge unbloodied and beaten. Keeping my BR from getting wounded or killed is the main goal. Just when I think I am on the way up I get knocked down again. Live play has been brutal to me the last couple of days, but I managed to hit a couple of licks in 2 tournaments which made up for my ring game losses.
My bankroll is still hovering at a bit over $600. I am not complaining, as I just re-read the Chris ferguson challenge on Full Tilt Poker and it took him 7 yes SEVEN months to get his bankroll stabilized at $6.50. Linda and I have bested that by almost 100x! Just think what I could do if I had a bit of BR management and discipline!
As for my NLH misadventures, I did get in this tournament: PokerStars Tournament #84460351, No Limit Hold’em
Buy-In: $10.00/$1.00 1819 players Total Prize Pool: $67150.00 Tournament started - 2008/04/17 - 22:00:00 (ET)
Dear PokerHack07,
You finished the tournament in 120th place.

How I would have loved to hit that one for some real money, but alas I had no cards at the end. One amazing thing about this tournament (besides me placing) was the general level of play. It was overall pretty good, and the deck was not favoring the small pairs. I had AK, QQ, KK etc and they actually won……except for one. I was one off the button and raised 12k with A-Q[s] and the SB called. Flop was 246 rainbow, SB checked, I checked. Turn was a 6, we both checked again. River was a A, just enough to get me to call his bet of 13k and he shows 3-5 offsuit. The only problem I have with it is that he called heads up with that hand, and a very sizeable raise, limits were 400/800. I understand doing that for pot odds in a multi-way pot, but to me it is just plain stupid heads up. If I am going to play 3-5 off, it will be in a multiway pot where I can quadruple my chips. But that is me, and what do I know…..nothing, or I wouldn’t have called his bet.
It was nice to finally get a few cards and have them win though…it has been a LONG time since that has happened to me in NLH. And it was a re-buy tourney, but I didn’t have to rebuy…doubly sweet!
I played in another NLH tourney and this is typical of what happens to me lately. I have no clue, Mr. K-6 wasn’t short chips enough to be desperate and call a 1k+ raise…but I have learned the hard way, K-6 off suit is one hell of a hand!

And…I came in 2nd in what I think is my best game: PokerStars Tournament #84950094, Limit 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo
Buy-In: $1.00/$0.10 368 players Total Prize Pool: $368.00
Dear PokerHack07,

I love poker, the things I don’t love about poker are losing (of course) and rude idiots. One such rude person plays in the live stud h/l games, hellogeeman. He thinks I am a donk which is fine with me, he is the one who has to sit down and hit and run for $20 because he doesn’t play good enough to hold onto his chips. What I have an issue with is his making fun of the way I play…if I beat him. Not for me, but by insulting the cards I play, he is also insulting the live ones. If he makes fun of me for playing 8-5-3, what message does that send to the guy playing K-9-7?? Making fun of anyone in a game is just plain stupid with a capitol S. And it shows the total lack of poker intelligence he really has. I love players to play crappy hands, that is how my BR gets bigger.
The last incident was: 4 players in the pot all had 9’s and above, I had an 8-5-3 with 2 clubs. I got a 7c on 4th, 4c on 5th and I was headsup with him and he had high cards, the other player was all-in. I guess he expected me to fold low just because he bet. Of course I didn’t and caught a perfect 2 on 7th and made a straight, beating them both, both ways. He of course made comments about me playing 8-5-3 because he raised it a whole $1 I am sure he thought I should fold. He did not make any comment when a fish played K-7-9 and lost to him though. If you play a certain game frequently you will run into these fools and just have to put up with them. I just ignore him, if I said what I wanted to, it wouldn’t be pretty. But I would love to tell him, “send me your email address so I can send you a list of starting hands I have seen you play” I could do it, I have them in my notes….and like him they are not pretty!
It is nice to have someone stop by and say hi when I am playing, as Mahluf did when I was in the Stud H/L tourney. Problem was that I was heads-up and I didn’t have time to chat back…so, stop by again mahluf, when I am not so busy!
Fade the nitwits, fade the bad cards, keep fighting, is all we can do!

thanks for the mention on the blog. I happened to notice you played great that morning in the stud games and was impressed .I think you must have a great memory to remember all the dead cards. I need software for that. Hope to stalk you some more.

Thanks for the compliment Mahluf…..but you haven’t seen me when my donkey ears are hanging on the keyboard yet!
Actually I don’t have a great memory. Unless it is a action packed game with 4-6 players in the pot, remembering the dead cards is pretty easy. Plus if I am playing right, I play few pots so I don’t pay attention at all to the cards unless I am in the hand. I just watch the players to see how they play.
If I have a A-2-3 to start, then I have to watch for the baby cards to fall, to see what my odds of making a low are. If I have KK then I watch for dead Kings. Not really that hard once you have played the game for awhile, but I do miss things sometimes, when I play and write at the same time!
Hope to see ya soon…on PokerStars!
