Foraging…
That is what I have been doing for the last few days…foraging for a good game. The good games are sporatic, and the worst time for good games seems to be on weekends. I guess people have more important things to do than playing poker….I can’t imagine!
After getting a little pounding in some cash games, I am struggling to keep my BR above the $800 mark. No complaints, every session can’t be a winning one, for me at least. Plus my idea of pounding is when I lose $20. But if I do that in 3 games it is $60 in the hole for the day. Luckily, my patience is ZERO for missing great draws or getting hands beat, so I don’t stay too long in those games where I am losing. I go on to another game to lose in!
My BR management is very simple, maximize my wins and set a stop loss. If I am say $75 ahead, I will continue to play unless I go down to $60 ahead, then quit. On this I don’t agree with the guy we are chasing. If you are in a good game and winning, why would you want to leave unless things turn sour? I guess this proves what works for one doesn’t work for all.
I was in a couple of games today 1/2 Stud8 on PokerStars but they weren’t very action packed, still I managed to get about $30 out of them.
There was an idiot at one table “scoopIT” who insulted anyone who beat him. We were heads up and on 6th I had a low made and a straight draw so I raised. He had all high cards and I figured he was betting hi pairs, which he was. I caught the miralce river card and made the low straight, raising him again when he bet. He starting hurling insults. I do not educate idiots, if he can’t see why I raised on 6th, that is good, let him think I am a donk. BUT I don’t/won’t stand for the crap he was saying. I told him “you are such a sweetheart, your momma must be proud.” To which he replied “lick the sweat off my ****s.” No hesitation, I reported him.
I got this from PokerStars:
After review of the chat log, we have decided to remove this player’s chat privileges. Their language was totally inappropriate and abusive to others. Our games are to be kept clean, fun, and a comfortable environment for everyone. We cannot tolerate this type of behavior at
our tables.
I love it, PokerStars did exactly what they should do, which is save everyone from that idiot’s abuse. Yes, I tried to be civil to him, told him to quit insulting us fish or we would swim away, after he told another player they had to be brain dead they were so stupid. I gave up and told him to enjoy his chat while he still had it, which wouldn’t be long. I wanted him to know I reported him, and am so glad PokerStars took the appropriate action.
I get just as irritated as anyone when I lose on hands that I think should win, or get drawn out on, or just miss the hand. BUT I keep my fingers to myself, I don’t use the chat to insult whoever beat me. I mean hell, they are who I make my money from, why would I want to make them leave? This is my favorite rant in poker games. Idiots who insult other players, above anything else I hate this the most. I was in a good 2/4 game about a week ago and it had a very live player who was making the game. Another brain dead moron insulted him so bad he left. Yes, I reported him too. A great game in the toilet because of one loudmouth jerk. My opinion; The biggest whinners are the biggest losers, they whine because they lose all the time. Which still gives them no free ride on the insult train. Toady it was a virus at the tables, seems every game I played someone had caught the “insult the live-one” bug. Only one actually got it when I asked them why, so kudos to one insulter with 1/2 a brain.
This is my weekend……finally! I work everyday then take from the 25th till the 1st off. I gotta get this Alaska cruise paid for! So I have a few days of no relaxation, but doing all the house stuff that gets neglected during the month. Unlike most folks I don’t look forward to retirement, because I know I can never retire. Which is ok because I really do love my job!
I will be playing poker though, since I took a 1 day break yesterday. So in between the house cleaning…. you will find me on PokerStars! I will also be on the new Chasing Chris Forum, come chat with us about our project, or anything else that’s on your mind!
Grab a chair…hope to see YOU there!

Glenda,
Couldn’t agree with you more about those who insult. Have seen it chase off too many people who were growing my bankroll. Also agree that it is getting hard to find a juicy game to play in right now. Have been sneaking off to .25-.50 NLHE where there are always loads of people who like to make huge bets with nothing. Even though I prefer HORSE and stud h/l, I’m mostly wanting to be where the money is more likely to come my way. Many of the regulars at the less popular games are very solid, some are better players than I am, I feel, and the variance is causing my bankroll to feel like the stock market caught between two trend lines.

I’m with you on if the game is good and you are doing well, why would you want to leave it I think a stop/loss is always a great idea, you have room to play and not burn off your win…it even works when you first buy in.
