No Good, Lots of Bad & Some Real Ugly…
Which relates to a donkwhuppin which is the same as an asswhipping, only in poker. Really God bless them, I love them all, those little long eared darlings…just not lately.
This especially goes for tournaments where I still have no clue what it takes to win. When I say win I mean more than showing a $3 profit for 4 hours. Coming out of the gate things go okay for awhile, then the inevitable happens. The closer I get to the finish line, the more my nag slows down. Then she breaks a leg coming into the home stretch.
As bad as I play (which is my only explanation) I may as well bet on the ponies, I couldn’t do any worse. Maybe better if a longshot came in, and I am the longshot in these NLH tournaments.
Therefore, I have nothing to brag about. I am still stuck in 6-5 off suit hell, because I have been sent packing by that beauty so many times I can’t count. I can’t even think about it anymore, I have absolutely no answer why anyone would call 1/2, all or even any of their stack, or a raise with that hand, especially in early position. I am thinking it is a crap shoot and they all play anything just to see if they can accumulate chips. If it is not that then I have no idea.
I am still not past the expectation mind set. The expectation that these people put up their money to actually play poker, not shoot darts! THAT is my problem and I have to get around that. Once I can convince myself this is not even close to poker as I think it should be…my hair can start growing out!
Then there is the Stud H/L which I can barely stand to watch the hands, to see J-9-4 off make something like a flush, when my 4-6-7 of spades hit the muck on the 2nd brick. Of course I have to watch, so I can take notes…of which the language is not fit for polite company!
My bankroll is still over $1k but not by much. It took a dive in the 3 days following hitting the $1,200 mark and I haven’t recouped it yet. I haven’t really tried much this last week, just haven’t been in the mood to sit and grind. I didn’t know what was wrong till it hit me, Mother’s Day. First one without my Mom *duh* of course it is gonna suck. And I am not a Mom myself (discounting 3 dogs and a cat) so I have no reason to celebrate it at all now. No pity party, just good to realize what is wrong in my head!
I can’t sleep, so I am signed up finally for a round 2 tourney I have had a ticket for….uh lets see, 5 months? I am never up early enough to play them! Also signed up for the $11 buy-in $100k guaranteed, both on PokerStars. We will see if I can keep from falling asleep on the keyboard!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there…even if they don’t play poker. My dear Mother loved poker…..but she loved the slots even more! What is it with old ladies and slots??

I also lost my mom in the past year, and know what you are going through. Two days ago, it just hit me that there was no one to call, no one to send a letter and a gift to for the first time in my life. I made a beautiful breakfast for my wife and kids (fresh squeezed OJ, cheese omelets, croissants, popovers and almond scones ((ok, I didn’t actually make the pastries, lol)) ), and tried to explain to my wife what I was feeling, but the emptiness was difficult to describe. I have to admit, the depth of the sadness really took me by surprise. Wishing you an easy time of it, and protection from the donkeys.

Thanks for the kind thoughts Clear. Sounds like you did a good turn for your wife for Mother’s Day! So sorry you lost your Mom, I feel for ya.
Yes it was a surprise to me too how the day hit me. I wasn’t expecting it, and since I am not a Mom, well…just no reason to even acknowledge the day for me, which was very strange.
It takes awhile to adjust to being an orphan, as both my parents are gone. But Mom is always here, I have a great 3′x2′ picture of her staring at me all the time!
Is there protection from donkeys? Maybe garlic, hemlock, poison hay?? Whatever it is, I need to find some and quick! Actually the donkeys are okay, it is the lucky ones giving me all the trouble!
