Breaking Away
I have a vision of Rudolph Valentino (the Sheik) packing his tent and silently disappearing into the night. Ok, so that is what I tried to do for a couple of days except packing the cards in (or up?) instead of a tent.
I needed a break badly. My mind can only take so many beats, bad hands and suckouts before I have to get away from it all, which is what I did.
My sleep schedule is beyond anything resembling normal. Because of this I may be up at 3 a.m. or up at noon…I never know. Today I was up at 2:30 a.m. and am going to try my best to just stay awake until at least 10 p.m. tonight. We have one of those non-poker things to do tomorrow, a housewarming BBQ so I need to have some semblance of normality for that! My strange sleep hours are not conductive to having to go do things on anyone’s normal schedule.
But back to poker…I had a couple of tickets in my PokerStars account. One a round 2 freeroll and another a PokerNews WSOP Freeroll. Since I was up on Friday and Saturday morning, I played them both. I won a whopping $1 in the Round 2 Freeroll whooppee! If I was back trying to build a BR it would have been exciting, as it was it seemed a waste of time. The WSOP freeroll I never went anywhere in and all I remember is a guy who was on a heater and never missed. I was in the path of his destruction and got blown away with several others. I just hope someday that can be me blowing everyone off the table and I am in a tournament that pays some serious money. No, I am not holding my breath, but hell, that is why we play tournaments right? I did pop in and out of a few games 3 days ago but after nothing for about 40 minutes I left. Not much patience for doing nothing but ”pitching” lately.
This morning I stumbled into a 3/6 Stud 8 game and picked up $30 which is nothing for that limit, I was up to $50, but for a game with $50+ pots that is not much either. I was hoping my cards would change, or the card fairy thinks I quit playing…anything that would improve, but no, things seem to be the same. I took $11 of my win and played a $11 Stud 8 tournament. I made 3 hands in 2 hours. Meanwhile the luckbox miracle gutshots where popping off all around me…and against me. Those hands I wait for-3d-4d-5h-7d would catch Ad and then the normal Qs Jc and I lose both ways. I counted them, I had 5 hands in a row that I had low made on 5th, with a double out draw to a straight and or flush and missed…. while the bricklayers stayed in to get the 6th and 7th street miracle to make a small straight. GRRRRRR…
What I learned from this is that they play every bit as bad starters in the bigger buy-in tourney as they do in the $1 buy-in one. Amazes me how so many players think Js-4h-8d is a playable hand AND a hand to call raises with! Yep, I am just jealous, because if I played that crap I would get just what I deserve, a pair of 4’s and no low.
Just to add to my irritation, there was a PokerStars update this morning. Why do they ask you if you want to update? If you say no, then you can’t log-in. I say yes of course (even tho I hate them ususally) and todays was new, a two-parter. WTH? The fun part is my desktop icon no longer works, so I said yes again when I got the prompt to remove it. NOW I can’t find PokerStars anywhere on my PC! So… I had to download it again. I love it when something works a certain way then POOF- the cyber gremlins let loose and nothing is the same.
I am off to check out the 3/6 game again…and hope the card fairy is in China…far far away!
