The Donkey Test

This blog comes a day late due to software technical difficulties that were resolved early this morning.

It is well known that I have certainly struggled with fitting into the tourney world of online poker and now I have an official and certifiable ranking as to my playing skills, once again, thanks to Jeff.In his comment to my last blog, Jeff suggested I go and take the donkey test, so I did.  I ended up ranking in the high end the average player percentage and I suppose since I am the rookie in this thing that it is not too terribly bad of a thing to know.

I have spent all my time and efforts so far in knowing when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em or when to call and when to run!  Now, as the test pointed out to me, I need to focus more on my opponents and get myself a mental system of labeling the other players at my table  so that I will know how they will affect my decisions during my own play.

The problem becomes that not only do you get shifted from table to table on a moment’s notice, but since I am only playing in freerolls and play chip tourneys, people don’t use much skill or wisdom until the tourney gets down to the last few players.  Trying to hold on until that point is highly difficult. I am sure I could refine my skills much better by playing at paid tables as people are going to use some sense in their play to protect their investments!

On another note, I got into a 90 player SnG Play Chip tourney on Full Tilt the other night and lost down to only 170 chips after two horrendous bad beats (Lost a great Flush to 4 of a KING kind and lost 3 Aces to a River straight) as well as had to give up on a couple of hands that just petered out along the way.  Just when I figured it was over, I got my chip stack back up to over 1800 in a matter of 4 hands played.  I was feeling pretty accomplished over that for a while until no more hands came and I could not beg, borrow or steal a pot to keep me in the game.  At any rate, I know that there are possibilities even when the chips are down. $Maxiecat$
