Here’s how it’s been going
I’ve obviously been playing. It’s not been very pretty. I’ve had the run from hell and managed to sit card dead for years and never even put any money in the pot other than blinds and antes. One tournament I played 2 hands in - obviously they were no good, 10’s one hand and K’s on the one that ousted me. Don’t think that means I think I’m a great player because I waited for skill cards, I don’t. But when you snug up for the long haul, you just can’t play anything marginal and I haven’t been. I think I went through over 20 or so tourneys without a cash. Poor baby bankroll.
Things turned around a little bit on Sunday when I played the $100K guaranteed on PokerStars…if things have seriously turned around, I would still be going “YEEEEAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!” This was what I was greeted with as the game cranked off:
GWCGWC: Linda?
PokerWorks: yes
GWCGWC: howdy
PokerWorks: hi
GWCGWC: i’m a reader
PokerWorks: kewl
PokerWorks: thanks for saying hi
GWCGWC: ![]()
GWCGWC: gl, this would destroy your 0-infinity challange
PokerWorks: I play these every Sunday - it’s tough
PokerWorks: and g’luck to you to both of us
Very Nice! We weren’t together very long before we were shipped off to other tables. I do hope he did well, although I’m guilty of not checking back.
When we were at 150-300 with 25 ante I got Aces sacked by 10-10. It was sick. Two hearts on the flop, heart-heart. That pot cost me close to $6K and I was seriously wounded, down to 1850 in chips. I did make the dough. Out of over 20K players, I managed 1,657th place and a little bankroll pad of $20.82. I have no idea how I got that far. One hand I distinctly remember drawing out on Q-Q, they raised and I just pushed all-in with A-10S and flopped A-A-10. Way weird! It felt strange to actually make a few hands. I finally pushed with 10-10 for almost 20K and got called by J-J…g’nite donkeyette Linda.
Then I went on to place in two more tournaments on Sunday, no money, basically got my buy-in back but I played 4 and placed in three….wowie-kadowie!
Monday found me joining a war in a $5.50 (no Re-buy). In the first round of this tourney, I picked up 3-3 and had called the BB, it got raised and I called $100 more. We were heads-up. The flop was 6-3-2, I bet about $500 I think, got called. The turn paired the six, I bet the rest of my stack and got called. He had 8’s. My hand held up and he was toast. His chat wasn’t nearly as friendly as GWCGWC’s was:
patr1ots7: nice preflop call a$$hole
trainwreck40: lol
PokerWorks: thank you
PokerWorks: see ya
patr1ots7 [observer]: stupid piece of $hit
patr1ots7 [observer]: wow what a luck box
PokerWorks: yeah, you’re some kind of brilliant
patr1ots7 [observer]: yea your obv. a pro..
patr1ots7 [observer]: nice english
patr1ots7 [observer]: youre some kind of brillant….
patr1ots7 [observer]: good luck noob
PokerWorks: thank you
I stayed alive until almost money time then I was out. And I had already signed up for an $11 re-buy event.I did field my way through 1508 players and took 199th place on one buy-in…damn…wonder what would happen if I ever caught any cards. I stole four pots in the last three blinds levels and won one - that kept me hanging with my fingernails barely in the wall.
This is my final hand, I had 23,100 left in chips. the ante was 500 and blinds were at 2,500/5,000. Problem is that I was the BB. OUCH! No chips left, damn it! I
was dealt QH-8C and everyone folded. The SB raised it 15K more to 20K and he had kazillion more chips than me. I had looked at blanks for the last four blind levels, like 6-2, 9-4, 5-3, 5-2, and on and on and on. I could have folded and got one more orbit out of the mess. I did think about it. I also could have had the best hand. And I could also hit a flop…well…maybe not…but what the hell.
I chunked - called his raised - and another 2,600 and went all-in. He folded. NOT! The board ran out - Jc-Jh-3s-9d-2s and he showed A-K. I picked up $61.62 for my amazing ability to fold hands and swoop in like a majestic eagle now and then to steal the little legless, round rats chips that scurried across the green felt.
My bankroll is wounded, it’s a little over $300. My brain is even more wounded, I’ve just come off of the death run from hell on bad cards and actually played through it quite well, if you don’t count the holes in the wall of the coach, I didn’t steam, just went crazy mentally as I wondered why Aces are never any good heads-up…shit…it happened a ton of times, and Kings got pimp slapped pretty good to. I just pitched them without looking back when I raised and got four callers and an Ace flopped. No reason to try and get fancy there. All in all, I hate poker, but I’m going back in there tomorrow, damn it!

Linda,
Congratulations on cashing a few times! The fact that you haven’t ever gotten cards in all your years of playing poker means that you are WAYYYYY overdue to get hit in the face with the deck for, oh, about 8 months straight. A little birdy told me that streak starts tomorrow, so be ready for it!
Just sent off my review of Negreanu. I hope it brightens your day.
