Out
At about 10:03 PM, I busted out of the Main Event of the World Series of Poker. I’ll be fine in the morning; the recovery process has already begun. But I’m too spent by it all to write a proper entry.
Here is the quick version: (1) I lost more than half my chips on a hand I played well against an opponent I had control over. I just didn’t have any control over the fact that we both had a ten to match the two on the board and his other card was higher than mine. (2) Short-stacked near the end of level four, I found what I thought was the right opportunity against the right opponent. But that opponent had pocket kings and my ace-queen suited did not improve.
I’m very pleased with how I played, just not the result.
It’s a very bizarre group of players at the World Series. The player to my left during the last 90 minutes never played a hand properly, never lost a hand, and would give an apology/explanation for why he played the hand in a way that allowed him to win only by getting extremely lucky, which happened repeatedly. He also revealed that he won his seat online by making runner-runner quads after he was all-in. (Not only that but he described the hand in excruciating detail.)
Thanks to all the people who rooted for me.
