Take Your Best Shot
I’m not giving much notice here, but I’m playing in Full Tilt’s $24+2 MTT at 10 PM MST. That’s 2 minutes from now. I’ll also play the $50+5 at 11 PM MST. And any $50-and-above HORSE SnGs I see for the next couple hours.
Funny thing is, last night I mentioned I was playing late and several people stopped by and said hello. Richard “Quiet Lion” Brodie, just back from his vacation, also came by. For some strange reason, in the middle of this, one of the most foul players I ever met decided he didn’t like how I was playing.
It started when he made a minimum raise with what turned out to be 7-7. I was in late position and flat-called with A-Jo. It’s arguably not a great play but we had pretty big stacks, it was the minimum raise, and I consider one of my edges online is that I CAN fold an ace when I get action after an ace flops.
The flop was a couple high cards but no pair for me - K-T-3, 2 hearts. He checked, I checked, the person who called behind me checked, and the big blind checked. A low heart came on the turn. There was over 1,300 in the pot and My Mortal Enemy bet 160. Post-Oak Bluff. I feel like I can call and hit my gut shot for less than 15% of the pot. Maybe I can take the pot away from him on the river. And his bet is so fishy I want to call it no matter what, so I do.
A jack comes on the river, it gets checked around, and I win the pot.
You would think I urinated in his Ovaltine. Laced with expletives, he called me every name he could think of. Twenty minutes later, he hasn’t given up. I made his night when I reraised a big stack by going all-in with A-K, getting called by A-T, and losing to a ten on the flop.
I’m hoping to see the guy again but it’s not too likely. After hat 7-7 hand, he didn’t play another hand until I was eliminated. Though I’ve never before done this, I lurked in the room after to see how he ended up - we weren’t that far from the money when I went out. He finally played a hand, calling a raise from the big stack who eliminated me. On a jack-high flop, he raised all-in and was called by jack-three. He was bluffing with Q-7, didn’t improve, and was gone.
Schadenfreude. So sue me.
