Full Tilt, full busto
I had $2357 on Full Tilt as of last Wednesday, which included the $300 regular bonus and $200 PPA bonus fully cleared.
I could have stopped, cashed out, and perhaps had a check in hand to spend in Las Vegas.
And then 8/16 happened.
8/16 6max limit players don’t play by the cards so much as the player, and if you’re not aggressive and you bluff it’s easy to drop a couple buy-ins pretty quickly. Players will call down with Ace high just as often as they’ll bet, raise, and cap with Ace high… and then get that confounded Ace.
Just a stunning amount of beats (I’ll spare posting the screenshots) that continued down in 5/10 limit, 2/4 no limit, and SnGs brought me down to $886 on Thursday.
By Friday I was down to $150.
$32.71 is left and hardly seems worth playing.
I’d built it up over two weeks only to lose it in two days. That much that quickly recalls the sad losing streaks of my online blackjack days (where I’m now offered a pitiful $25 match on a $50 deposit… a far plunge from the weekly $400 match for $400).
Reviewing my play, it wasn’t all beats. It was also bad play. I became a maniac fish, raising and reraising blindly and causing many players to see the flop for a 3bet. This is the ideal situation for big hands, but when I hit those big hands I’d be drawn out just because the whole table was in the hand drawing against me.
In SnGs, big hands just could not win races against small pocket pairs that would unbelievably call all-ins. And vice versa, my pairs weren’t holding up against an Ace that also unbelievably called.
The loss isn’t enough to get me all Richard Jeni or Brad Delp. Because it’s online and post-NETeller and with delays in receiving checks, online poker feels more like play money (though people have been getting checks from Full Tilt within a week). But it’s enough to sour me on the daily online play that I’ve been doing since, well, since I moved to Chicago.
Now with a looming Vegas trip next week with more inevitable losses, I’ll try (I still have money in Poker Stars) to stop completely to hopefully rebuild some good feelings about poker.
Because right now, all I want to do is play slots and blackjack and pai gow.

And so this losing post isn’t a complete waste, I thought I’d try something for this week only.
If you want to know your SnG stats on Full Tilt or Poker Stars, email me your screen name. I’ll email back an Excel file containing your wins/losses for the past few months.

You should move in with Lord Geznikor. You could make a reality TV show out of it.
