I’ve been bad.

While on a sudden downswing the night before my Vegas trip, I lost the remaining $700 that was in my Full Tilt account on 3/6 6max, 1/2 NL, and SnGs. My luck was so bad that in one NL hand, my KK all-in was called by K-10. I was feeling good when just a J flopped. Until he runnered a straight flush.

Cystic fibrosis poker gift baskets

Last night, the Horseshoe in Hammond, Ind., hosted a charity event in downtown Chicago to benefit cystic fibrosis. Donations were in increments of a buy-in to their poker tournament, which awarded one winner a seat into the main event of the World Series of Poker, airfare, and hotel.

Slots and sushi

The Harrah’s “Bright Lights, Big City” slot tournament pulled in 500 players from around the country with a $20,000 prize pool and $5000 top prize.

This was ostensibly the reason for my Las Vegas trip, and I don’t know any other place of employment that would accept “slot tournament” as a valid reason to take time off from work.

I can’t even begin to write about Vegas over Easter weekend since it was a blur of late nights, loads of beer and surprisingly two shows and only one buffet. I didn’t go to sleep before 5am each morning and awoke before 11am each morning. I did get more sleep than grubby though.

Stood up by a stripper

In Vegas last week, I wore my glasses the majority of the time. When you sleep a couple hours every other night, contacts don’t cut it. Glasses enable you to roam the streets with red eyes without looking like an alien blinking incessantly. Though in Vegas, no one looks the other way when they see red eyes, wrinkled shirts, or men wearing white wedding dresses.

O’Sheas leprechaun

I’m back from a grueling nonstop, nonsleep 9 days in Las Vegas, which is 5 days too long but somewhat forgiveable because with a friend in the first half and family in the second half, it became similar to two back-to-back Vegas trips. I know just in flight fare ($450) it seemed like two trips.
