Full Tilting FTOPS, Part 2

(Here’s Part 1, posted an hour ago.)

When Stars held their $1000 trivia freeroll, over 12,000 players entered and I wound up in the top 100 which paid a little over a dollar.  If anything, even through donkfest crapshoots like those freerolls, I can survive.

We’re now at break #2 in the FTOPS main event.  If I can just hang on a couple more hours and my stomach doesn’t begin eating itself.

A couple weeks ago I found myself in a similar situation with no food and a refrigerator full of Taco Bell hot sauce packets.  A friend suggested I could make stew.

Gavin Smith, Andy Bloch, David Chiu, and John Cernuto are out.  2403 more to go, average is T7902, and I’m hovering around there at T8218.

I’m seeing less hands now, my VPIP dropping to 10 percent.

This next level, however, is when I’ll be playing more hands in position and against the smaller chip stacks.  Table chip leader is at T18,654.

A shortstack to my right was pushing every hand and just doubled with 77 vs. AQ.  Glad it wasn’t against my AQ.  He’s now backed off.

Interesting hand came up with blinds T60/120.

After ever hand being raised preflop, this time it’s limped around.

UTG limps, inviting MP to limp.

I also accept the invitation and toss in T120 with my 56 hearts.

Button calls, SB folds, and BB checks.

Flop is Q-5-8 rainbow and no hearts.

Checked to me.  Normally I bet here but I’ve been catching up on some “High Stakes Poker” episodes and decide to check.

Button thinks and then checks.

Turn is a 6, which puts out a flush draw as well as a straight draw unless someone already has it with 79.

UTG now bets T480, less than 1/2 pot, which seemed like a feeler bet.

Folded to me and I raise min.  I used to deride min-raisers but now make this play myself because while it doesn’t mean anything to me (particularly preflop), it does seem to have an effect on others.

The min raise was to ferret out whoever may have flopped or turned a monster.  If anyone but UTG smooth-called, I’d back off.

It’s just UTG who calls.  I put him on a flush draw or a slowplaying set.

River is a Jack that puts out a scary 3flush and straight, not to mention possible bigger two pair.

Board is now: Q-5-8-6-J (three clubs)

I butted up against UTG in a previous hand when I limped with 77 in MP and he was the Button.  Flop was 2-8-6 (two spades) and we checked (damn that “High Stakes Poker”).  Turn was a 5 of spades, giving me an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw to the 7.  I bet out, but had to let go when he raised all-in.

Back to the current hand.

I’m prepared to call a pot-sized bet, but don’t know what I’ll do if he pushes here.

I wasn’t put to the test, and he luckily checked.  I was afraid of a check-raise with my bottom two pair, so I felt it best to just check back.

My hand was good.

Checking hand history, UTG had limped with KK.  Naughty naughty.

Another hand, saw AA lose to KK, and it wasn’t me for a change.

KK was EP and just limped.

AA was SB and raised 3x.

Again, KK just called.

The King came on the flop, and SB bet out T777.  Players who do this don’t irritate me because they tend to do it in certain situations.

EP smooth-called his set.

On the turn, SB bets T1111 and now EP pushes.

Poor AA guy.  I don’t know if I’d be able to get away from that hand either.

More next hour, hopefully.
