Poker Perambulation

The great state of Louisiana – more specific St. Landry Parish – has dismissed charges against Sporting Bet’s Peter Dicks. This is reported to have come at a $400,000 ante by Sporting Bet to said parish. Peter won’t head for the jail showers anytime soon.

Louisiana has a history of being the best state government money can buy. Graft and corruption are at a level to make the congress green with envy. I can’t help but wonder if the courts there have a published schedule of buyout options. You know: beat your wife for $300; brothels are probably by the head or other body part; and so on. Can get a discount if you prepay for your next, planned peccadillo?

We have a whole collection of strange laws on the books. A lot of them have to do with poker in the various states. There are humor books written about old laws still on the books. I recall one in New England that required a man go ahead of a car warning the populace of its approach. That would slow your next visit over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house.

I can see why Dicks had to ante up. He a respected investment banker with dealing in this country. He can’t move around and do business. So, the $400K is probably chump change against his potential profits.

But all this does beg the questioning: Is justice equal for all? Are poor laws more breakable than the good ones? Just who cares anymore?

But, at least the world is on record on what it cost to get the District Attorney of St. Landry parish to spread his legs. The only question remaining is why the good people of Louisiana have sanctified the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys?

One more post after this about politeness and then it is back to tournament Hold’em for a bit at least. The recent topics haven’t seemed that popular so I’ll respect those voting with their feet and get back to dancing with the Hold’em gods.
