Poker Perambulation

Did you catch the latest antics of Humberto Brenes? He’s giving Helmuth a run for his money as poker’s idiot savant.

Humberto has either watched too many of Catenflas’ antics or The Three Stooges. He has become a cracked record of jokes that were almost funny the first time out. Helmuth needs writers too but at least brings along his weird form of passion.

Back in the olden days, I was involved in horses. I rode cutting horses (Quarter Horse) mostly but friends trained Saddlebred horses and I occasionally helped them out at their shows. One of the events was Hackney Pony. They were midget horses that pulled carts around the ring. They were the horse show equivalent of poodles. They’d high step around the ring like a poodle on a tile floor. It was exciting for the ladies but any resemblance to the real article was purely coincidental.

That is where we are with Humberto. He’s only cute to watch if you don’t know what the real thing looks like. I watched his antics on NBC’s Heads Up Championship the other weekend. Maybe Change100 can hook him up with a comedy writer before Pauly sends him a copy of Gigli to help him learn a bit more stage presence.

In case you missed the big event it can be viewed on the web at NBC sports. Most of ‘Berties’ antics are near the end. Throw in his Motley Fool hat with Costa Rica plastered on it and you have a reason for Costa Rica to withdraw his passport before the world equates Costa Rica with cruel and unusual punishment.
