Click on the Mouse and …

That’s been a traditional view in our Puritanical society. In the distant past, only Nevada allowed gambling outside traditional racing wagering. Illegal bookmaking and numbers operated outside the law. In recent times gambling became more mainstream with state sponsored lotteries and legalized casino operations across the nation. The stigma attached to gambling has been eroded by the attractive revenue source they provide governments. But, the historic prejudice against gambling continues. It is that context that has allowed the religious right to influence congress and is personified with former Congressman Jim Leech’s remark, “Click the mouse and lose your house.” (more…)
