Illegal bookmaking and numbers operated outside the law. In recent times gambling became more mainstream with state sponsored lotteries and legalized casino operations across the nation. The stigma attached to gambling has been eroded by the attractive revenue source they provide governments. But, the historic prejudice against gambling continues.
