From Infant to Toddler

That changeover takes place at the 1 year mark. Today is the 1 year mark for this blog. Mother Linda has nurtured me these 12 months. I looked around the Net nurture sites for advise for her bringing me up; the obvious one was that I should be kept away from guns.

My very first post was about the UIGEA. And here I am 294 blogs later still whipping on the same dog. Darn thing keeps nipping at everybody’s heels.

I am one year old and sixty-seven too. Be darn nice if I were allowed to average things.

I said in my 200th that I was amazed I was still around and the feeling continues. I run dry frequently but something always shows up to prime the pump. I should probably thank George and Jeffery; without Harrahs and the UIGEA, I might be 100 post down at this point. They always manage to drop an anvil on their foot when I start running dry.

I should probably come up with a list with a title like “The Best of…” but that’d be presumptuous and inaccurate. I think I’ve done some top quality blogs but that sure isn’t the every day output. There are a bunch that didn’t quite make it. For me it is having a clear vision of the topic – or thinking I have – and then failing in the implementation. Clear becomes opaque and, on occasion, chaotic. For those who are writer in the honest too goodness sense, I tip my hat. I’ll never be one.

I’m not really a blogger either. I never have networked well. The majority of my friends have almost always fallen into the close category. I did a lot of account management in my day and drank a bunch doing it. Having to stay sober in a bar was a way of life. I enjoy a drink still but not the environment – seems too much like work.

If I’m proud of anything, it is that I’ve been able to be honest with you and hopefully myself. Yes, I often mention Full Tilt or Pacific or Bodog by intention. Everybody know that and even will occasionally click one to help keep the doors open. But, I don’t recall a single instance where I said one thing and meant another.

The marketing does rear its head occasionally. You saw that recently with Duplicate Poker pimping. But that is a very infrequent happening and typically carries an added benefit for those who did click through here. I’ve not been criticized for several more negative post about it either. Linda has never even asked for a tone down on anything. When I told here about something it has been as a heads up and she’s always said, “Go for it.” and that is unique when you are talking the business world.

The other day, I thanked the programming types here for a day off as they cleaned up after the site upgrade. I really didn’t have anything to write that day. Then, I did most of the weeks post – and had one every day – in a day or so. This post is being written ‘today’ and there are none left in the hopper. So far, I’ve managed to find new ideas when necessary. At times too many. I’ve had a couple of week worth ahead at times. I don’t know how much longer this will work but its still fun trying.

Thanks for the pageview. It’s been fun for me. I hope you’ve found the majority worth your time and effort.

ADDENDUM:

Blogging in all the varied forms is a symptom of change. It continues to fracture business plans that have worked since almost the Ice Age. Nowhere is that more obvious than with the record industry. It is being forced to try to adopt to new pressures created by the Internet and the results aren’t attractive. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is their current answer. From Microsoft’s Vista to the latest Blu-ray disks there is a DRM component. Like the recent audio CD’s that installed hidden files on people’s computers, it is a heavy handed attempt to avoid change. The Internet is all about change and exchange. You can’t outsmart people that are smarter than you and there are always going to be a few of those around. If you stop by the EFF site, you can get a good idea on the current status of all this silliness.

Happy Birthday little blogging buddy. I’m sure glad we got through your infancy where you thought you wanted to quit and I had to talk you out of it.

    thanks for stickin’ around.
